A language isn't just words, it embodies the whole culture and way of thinking. So a different language can make you think and feel differently. I feel a more self-confident person when I use English as opposed to when I use my native language, German, for example.
I can easily understand how you can be more aggressive speaking English than Japanese! I only started learning Japanese once, but I learned enough to get the idea that being polite is integrated into the language. Japanese probably doesn't allow getting as aggressive as the English language does? Or even if it does, when speaking Japanese you would still at least be thinking within your childhood frame of reference in which you were taught to be polite and non-aggressive. Whereas when speaking English, you may be thinking in a more "western" way, depending on what you associate with speaking English.

Some languages are literally more forceful...perhaps Asian languages tend to make it harder to be forceful...words just maybe don't have the same meaning or impact.
I know that I find it utterly impossible to translate some things from Italian to English and from English to Italian...it just loses it's meaning and it's impact. In some cases there really is no actual word in the other language that exists to translate accurately and you really need a whole series of words to even attempt to clarify the meaning.
Hope that helps.

I've noticed I can be more agressive when I use my native language, Spanish. On the other hand I make more sense if I'm speaking English and speaking my mind. It's just the same as when we think, what language do you think in? your native or your second langauge? Think about it.. maybe that's why.

I have experienced the same feeling. English is my fourth language but in situations where I need to sound aggressive or just forceful I tend to resort to English. For nastiness or romance French (my third language) never fails me.

It is the same to me. I can be more aggresive in my native than in any other. Maybe because nuances of words better. and a lot more vocabulary allows me to do so. In fact... if involving into a verbal "fight", I'd prefer to use my native.

english is universal. mother tongues are more subtle, and sometimes you cant just translate english to mother tongue and vice versa.
i speak a lil japanese and mandarin myself, other than english. and some local dialects. it's pretty amazing how languange can help you blend in.

It could be, because when you speak your mother tongue, you feel guilty saying certain words....but if it's a language that you don't identify your self with...then you feel liberated and say what you want.
