you find the 'right ' chord of a earphone usually longer than the 'left'.. why is it that way?

just a guess...most people are right handed, so they will put their music device on the left...this necessitates the right side of the cord being longer for a better fit on your noggin...

Your ears must be different sizes. When you have this problem, you must be careful to keep them clean. Try a Q-tip with a little rubbing alcohol; don't go in too far!

OR you have a lopsided skull, that is OK too, you just need to wear a hat to avoid frightening children.

To allow you to carry the source device in a coat pocket presumed to be over the heart. So it's farther to the right ear.

They all seem to be that way these days, I think it's so that the device you're using them in doesn't get in your way i.e. you can wear your MP3 player in your pocket etc - if that makes sense :)

they assume that the player will be positioned at your side so that the chord on that side can be shorter than the other

not all headphones are like that...the longer one is soposed to go around the back of your neck into the farthest ear so its not drapped down in front of you
