I think it would be fair for them to pay for their share of the groceries, and maybe $100-200 a month to cover other expenses. It depends how much they make though.

Your daughters should pay 25% of their pre-tax income for rent. That's what they would be likely to spend if they were living on their own. Then, if you are in a four-person household, they should each pay one fourth of the groceries and household supplies (for example, toilet paper, which doesn't grow on trees, heh heh). If the girls were full-time students, it would be a different matter, but adults who feed off their parents lack dignity and self-worth. You need to secure your retirement, not indulge their laziness. What do they spend their money on? Clothes and music?

When I was working and living at home, I paid my mom 20% of my take home pay. I mean, I had my laundry done, meals and my room. AND I learned a lesson about life.

I really would not make them pay to stay at home but maybe have them help out with groceries but you had children your responsibility it doesn't mean just until they are old enough to take care of them selves.

Are you trying to help them get on their feet or are you trying to get them to move out? If it's the first case, you should charge them as little as you can to make ends meet. If it's the second case, you should do it by asking politely.

Well if they are in school. Nothing. Don't put excess pressure on them just because you want to be cheap.
