Ask if its a tornado area or flooding just how safe it is. and if you have the money buy a motor home ,it saves on motels and the cost of food and gives your family something to enjoy later on , remember you need a place to stay while your new home is waiting to close,some take up to a month,

First, b/4 U think of relocation, check if there re any place tactically secured for someone to live around that area, unless U dont want to live in such area again to avoid going from frying pan to fire. U said it will be for long term purpose? Then look for a place that will be conducive to bring up children especially a place where its more lucrative to dwell. Then a place far from industrial and commercial areas......................Thats much I have

Safety first, since your planning to raise your children their look for a good reputation city (less crimes, good education...etc.)
