Can someone that's 14 years old actually be an atheist? How can they be mature enough or know enough to make a judgement like that??How can someone determine that there is no God when they have never read the bible or been to church?

I think a 14 year old "atheist" is claiming to be one just to get attention. The early teen years are fraught with pseudo-rebellion and what a better way to test limits and rebel than to become an atheist especially if the kid's parents are practicing Christians/Jews, etc.

This too shall pass.

When he or she decides the atheist label doesn't fit or look good on him, then it will be something else to try on.

Maybe he'll try on fundamentalist Protestantism in an attempt to rebel against his Roman Catholic parents.

Many of these religion rebels come back to the faith of their families by the time they are ready to marry and have their own families.

Every person ages differently. Some teens are more mature than others. Some prefer study to other areas. I left christianity at the age of 15. Did I become an atheist right away, no for years I was in another belief system but I still researched and that led me to my path. However, I did know enough at the age of 15 to know why I did not believe in the christian theology.

Also, like some people are raised christian some people are raised with no religion and no deity worship. Your question could be turned to ask 'How can someone determine that there is a god when they have never looked at why others don't believe?'. It is all a matter of perspective.

Yes. I was raised as a devout Catholic, and became agnostic around the age of thirteen.

It's not necessary to attend church or read the bible to make a decision to disbelieve. I'm sure that you've never read The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster or attended a pirate revival (major sacrament of the Pastafarian religion). Does that mean that you can't determine that the Flying Spaghetti Monster doesn't exist?

The sad thing is that so many childen are raised by non believing parents and are not taught that God is our creator and that Jesus is the son of God. Children do not start out non beliving, but are led to non beliving by their on believing parents.

Children are more rerceptive to the Almighty God right from the start. But they do need the Christian nuturing to continue to keep them in lined with God. Children automatically go to heaven if they should die before they reach the age of accountabliity to where they know what a sin is and then willingly commit a sin.

Satan can trick people into believing what he wants them to believe, expecially if they dont' already have Jesus to guide them through their accepting Jesus as their savior. Those who do not believe in God or accept Jesus as their savior don't realize that they already belong to satan and are under his total control. It's a shame.

Of course it is possible - These days age 14 is much more mature and knowledgeable then it was when I was 14 ( many years ago). So they are capable of making a decision on their religion. Their parental influence can also bring them to this decision. This is not to say as they get older and experience more life experiences that they will not change their view ( conversely that could reinforce their views as well).

14 years should be old enough. Why do you care? If this person has made a choice, then you should respect that choice. How do you know they haven't read the bible?
Mind your own business.

The great Christian writer C.S. Lewis wrote that in order to reject God you have to first believe in God. If a 14-year-old says that he is an atheist it is because he does not want to believe in God. He probably thinks that this gives him a license to do whatever he wants. 14-year-olds are very rebellious---it will pass, like all things that teenagers go through. Jesus loves him.

why not let them have a choice in their life. it's theirs not yours.

why are you so worried? what's the control thing going on in these and this situation?

why the fear of this selection? what's up other than this? there's always something else involved but the other is blamed.

i've studied religion for years and years, i still am what i am today, non-sect.

i don't have a religion i don't understand why i should have one. this doesn't make me what everything thinks. that's their thinking. that's their warped capacity on the situation.

i have much faith. i just can't limit myself to one single thing. seems almost wrong, unholy.

let them be who they are at the present, isn't that what is important them happy at all their present life?

if they change that's because of their decision, if they don't, then i guess they were derterminate about this selection of belief.
