Why hasn't the IDF destroyed hezbollah yet? The casualties of Israeli soldiers and Hezbollah fighters are not that far apart. Were their air raids a big mistake considering they gave Hezbollah the backing of the civillian population? Or were the numbers of soldiers sent into Lebanon insufficient?

Well, the IDF isnt the invincible fighting machin e it claims to be. Its made up of mainly conscripted National Servicemen and reservists, not full time professional soldiers.

Where can i start? Tanks and Aerial bombings cant, and will never, dislodge a guerilla group from inside a nation. The 'war' has done everything to damage Israel, destroy the fledging rebirth of Lebannon and to fuel the fires of hatred

Strategic mistakes generally aren't made by the military but the civilian leaders. The biggest mistake seems to be being too careful and trading the lives of Ireali soldiers for the lives of Lebanese civilians. Also trying to keep an appearance of proportionality, slowed the response and allowed the terrorist time to regroup and set up.

How would it work if the police used the same principles that the international community would like the Isreali's to use. The police couldn't chase a speeder with a car that could go faster than the car the speeder was using, (how would they catch him).

If there is only one burgler you could only send one policeman, if the burgler was unarmed the policeman couldn't use a weapon, if the burgler had a knife the policeman could only use a knife. Its ridiculous. The only moral way to wage a war or to make an arrest is use overwhelming force to minimize the casualties.

It's like trying to get rid of cockroaches. While the Hezbos fire rockets without warning into civilian centers, the IDF tries to warn the Lebanese people to get out of the way before an attack proceeds. "Air raids a big mistake considering they gave Hezbollah the backing of the civilian population?" Are you bereft of any intelligence or knowledge of the facts? The IDF is the Lebanese's people's best friends. They will never understand it though, because they are blinded by hatred. Insufficient number of soldiers? How can Israel properly defend itself with maximum force without the rest of the world calling it unfair?

The reason is the IDF mistakingly underestimated how well equipped the Hezbollah were. The IDF undermanned no I don't think so. The Hezbollah well trained. Yes that is the answer.

The intention of the Israelis was to start civil war in Lebanon as they did in the 1980s.
This time they seemed to have failed.

Sadly like in most wars the soldiers get killed while some stupid civilian tries to tell them how to fight!
