My friend accidentally backed his scooter into my leg and my shin was badly burnt on his muffler. It is about 3 to 4 inches across. It hurt when it was happening, but immediately afterwards it did not hurt and still is not painful. The skin is grey, dry, and kind of crispy. Some of the skin has burnt all the way down to the flesh and the area is very red. I am mostly worried about it because there is no pain, even when I cleaned it with peroxide.

It is hard to tell what you have, based upon your description alone, but it sounds as if you have a full thickness burn (also called a 3rd degree burn). Some of the hallmark signs of this are charring of the skin and pain only to the edges, with no sensation/pain over most of the burn. Given the size of the burn, and its location, you probably should have it evaluated by a doctor. You do not necessarily have to go to the emergency department, your family doctor or an urgent care clinic should be able to treat you adequately. Make sure that you cover the wound with a sterile, non-adherent dressing (like Telfa) before you leave for the doctor's office and do not apply any ointments (including neosporin) before you are seen by a doctor. Consider taking some Motrin before you are seen by the doctor--it will help with the pain should he/she decide to start messing with your wound (peeling away dead skin) and will not interact with Tylenol containing medications (such as Vicodin/Percocet) should the doctor decide to give you some of these. Make sure that you have someone drive you there and back, if you can. Good luck.

Sounds like a third degree burn. These types of burns are often painless because nerve endings have been destroyed in the involved areas.
You really should have it checked by your doctor. It could become infected. Don't use peroxide on it because it will further burn the tissue and cause more scarring.

Third degree, or 'Full Thickness' burn. The actual skin has been damaged and it is not going to heal real well on its own.
You should have been to the ER already. Good quality care is required to make sure it heals well and does not become massively infected.
Believe me, this really could be a MAJOR problem. SEE A DOCTOR. SOON.

I would go to the doctor and get it checked. Just because it is not painful right now does not mean it wont become that way soon. Also you could get an infection deep inside the wound. You could have damaged some nerves also so please have it checked out.
If you do not have it checked and properly taken care of you could also end up with a very nasty scar on your leg.

Peroxide is usually not painful when applied,time will heal it may be that the burn is a second degree burn,keep it clean and if it seems to start giving you discomfort,swelling you need to see the Doctor.

This is something that a doctor needs to have a look at. A burn is supposed to hurt unless you burned more thant you were supposed to and the nerves are done working now too.

you have a serious burn... if you go to the doctor/hospital that grey skin will be scrapped offf... that will be your pain. this happend to my cuz when he was little about 3-4 inches on his lower leg.
i would go get that looked at! I don't know what will happen if you don't but i recomend it!!!

Sounds like at least 2nd degree.You have to go to a doctor to remove all the dead flesh or it will get infected.My sister had the same thing happen and it got infected and she got very sick.

Sounds like a full thickness (3rd degree) burn. You should be seen at an Emergency Room ASAP.

See a doctor ASAP. You may have done some permanent damage.
