For every East-european cheap labourer there is an English person on the doll. Surely this can't be good for this country's economy..?

Just an observation: for work in catering or similar you would have got more money six years ago then you do now because there always is someone who is going to do it for less.

Unfortunately, if you're English you simply cannot afford to do it for less.
By the way I do work full time :-)

Little friend there is a lack of people to do some of the low paid work. Many from Eastern Europe work in the black economy. This means they get little and gang masters earn a packet. There are 2 million unemployed according to the government. I would say that it is more like 3 million but they lie to us. If you are fit and well you should be made to do the work if you want money. The problem is the government will bring them in then loose them so they will always be cheap labour. I do agree however that the Polish workers I know are great. Sad thing is most of the money they earn will go back to Poland. So its no help to our economy.

Charles D is right. Because we live in a "nanny" state where we only have to go to the doctor and say "I'm depressed!" and they will sign you off work straight away. Then you get free housing, free council tax, free dentistry, free school meals for your kids, free school clothes for your kids, free eyecare etc etc. (I know this because my neighbour did just that so I'm not exaggerating and I know of many many others just like that). Therefore people choose the easy way out. It's shameful and disgusting and they have no sense of "self-worth" or "self-pride".
If I were to split up from my husband tomorrow and there was only one income coming in then I'd work my butt off to provide for my children and not rely on the taxpayer. These eastern europeans (the legal ones - I won't go into illegal immigrants right now) are usually hard working and well skilled and are filling the gaps the lazy brits can't be bothered to fill because it's easier going to sign on than doing a days work. If people were forced into work (which should be done asap) then we wouldn't have the need for immigrants. My son's friend is from South Africa and his parents pay their way including their taxes etc because they are both nurses at a local hospital. They do a very hard job and we are lucky to have people like them when there is a shortage.
My neighbour on the other hand is English, claims she has post-natal depression even though her son is 6 (!) and also says it's not "financially worthwhile" to take on a job! What a lame excuse and what a lame human being.
NOTE to people reading this and on the dole (not doll!) - stop moaning about immigrants if you can't be bothered to work you lazy twats!

No!The eastern european people work for less in places where you don't need any education(which most of Britons don't have).
So if you complain, think about why did you leave school at the age of 13 and got pregnant or got convicted!
I am a foreigner myself, but I have my own house, law career(graduated here in UK- MORE EXPENSIVE, but easier than my country),expensive car, and my family can afford to go on a holiday at least 3 times a year! So?I will never work for even 6 pounds an hour!
Got anything else to say?......Then shut it!
P.S I'm Bulgarian with british nationality, but I am still foreigner

Its good for business and thats all that seems to matter these days. We have the social security to keep voters happy and to cut crime and poverty, its true it is abused, but its good we have it.
There should be more stringent measures to get people back into work after say a month, they should be made to take training or a job offer or lose there benifits.
Imigration shoul be cut by 90% and follow a similar policy like Australia and new zealand have.
This would curb the black economy and give workers better rights and wages in the worst of jobs.

the immigrants have to paid the same amount as an english person, if the brits wont put in a hard days work for a days pay someone has to, the east europeans are generally very hard workers and skilled in there trades, they would not be here if they were not needed, alot of brits are lazy and feel the dole is there right not a privelidge.

In Belgium you have to go and 'sign-on' every single day. And your pay matches your attendance record. You get two weeks holiday a year. It's not the ones on the dole that get to me. For every East-european there is at least three lazy gits on incapacity or disability benefit that thinks the government owes them a living.
Rant over.
Apologies to those on those benefits for the right reasons beforehand.
PS. i am not on benefits, just self-employed!

It can only be good if the foreign labourers are taxed (fairly mind) too, and there is less employer discrimination when it comes to age and providing initial training to those on the dole.
