Yes you should, it will make them more tender and fall off the bone easier.

You can, but I wouldn't. Beef ribs are generally tougher than pork ribs and need to be boiled a bit to tenderize them. I would suggest slow cooking them in the oven at 325 degree in a marinate made from the BBQ sauce you plan on using. 50% base sauce to water) wrap pan tightly with foil and cook about 90 minute to 2 hours depending on how much rib you are cooking up. Finish off on grill. You can due this the day before and refrigerate ribs. You can even reuse the marinate once immediately after 1st batch if space in oven is limited, but throw it out after that.

The best way I have found for ribs that fall off the bone with juicy goodness, is pre heat your oven 350 degrees, place them in a deep pan,( standing), submerge half way with hot water cover with foil shiny side towards the meat (Yes it makes a difference), Start checking on the ribs after 2 hours. When done the bones will pull easily off the meat. You can do this up to 4 days in advance before your BBQ just make sure the meat is wrapped and refrigerated.

BBQ Ribs

Ribs
Salt and Pepper

Salt and pepper ribs and wrap in Saran Wrap then Wrap in Tin Foil. In the broiler pan, place 1 cup water. Replace grill pan top and bake at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Remove from pan and can be grilled for 15 minutes to get that grilled flavor. Add your favorite BBQ sauce and enjoy.

You can but they aren't as flavourful that way. It used to be recommended as older bbqs were harder to control the heat & were usually burnt on the outside before being cooked in the middle. Trick to grilling use a really low heat. If you have a small & cheaper bbq , you might need to lay some foil underneath to prevent flare ups. Keep the lid down.
Wait until the last 5-10 mins to coat in bbq sauce as the sugar will burm.
Sounds yummy when's dinner?

Smoking them first is the best way I ever tried. I tried to par boil before and had success about half the time. But, just grilling them without either is still very good.

I put my ribs in a baking pan and then put on the sauce (if I am using any) and cover it tightly with foil. Bake for about an hour and then grill for a few minutes on each side to get the bbq flavor.

Yes, the pre boil makes the ribs ultra tender so that as my husband says...the meat just slips off the bone and someone without teeth could probably enjoy them.

I didn't preboil one time and he explained to me that a non preboiled rib was like having tire rubber :)

Good luck with your grill

It is the best way, yes. But put a little cider vinegar in your water with a little salt. Only boil about 20 minutes. You will get that delicious grilling flavor in no time. I am a chef at a midwest Marriott.

I usually bake them in the oven seasoned and with a little water, enough to cover the bottom of the pan. i cover the pan and cook them for about an hour to an hour and a half, then take them out, sauce them and grill them, yummy!!! I think I'm going to BBQ today now!

If you have the time to stand over a BBQ with them for about three hours, constantly basting and turning then you don't need to parboil.

Since you're probably busy like the rest of us - simmer them gently until the meat is tender. If you want to add a little oriental flavour in the simmering process, add soy sauce, sherry, star anise and chinese five spice powder to the fluid.
