National service is a good idea, I just don't want any but the most motivated and qualified to end up in the Military. We don't want draftees, we want volunteers. The other issue with national service is that I'd worry about exemption abuse and that the "better" jobs would go to those with connections. I would hate to see it end up like the draft did in the 1960's and 70's

It would be good to bring back national service, it would help the manning levels of the British Army, as we are already over stretched in our operational commitments. The Army is a great place to get a good career and good job prospects for the future. It would also stop alot of crime as younger people will have money and will not need to thieve things and the Army has a zero tolerance to drugs so there will be a lot let people who depend of drugs. However i could be wrong...

Bad boys would put the dogooders and the PC brigade with the human rights lobby off national service. It is a great idea. I think anyone leaving school at 16 who has no job or education place to go to would benefit from two years compulsory service and further education. It will teach discipline, respect and team spirit.

I agree with you. It will eliminate the yob culture, give the lads a sense of respect (self respect and respect of others) and let them realise that doing a job is meaningful, not a waste of time. they will be reformed.

I don't think it should be National service as such, but it should be a reforming school for yob culture people. When a yob/lout gets arrested a couple of times, they should have a life system, three arrests and you get sent to a training camp to be reformed into a useful member of society. Then, when they come out of that school, they probably won't want to rebel again.

being in the royal navy we often have this conversation and the general consensus is that there should be a 2 year national service in the UK but not just the military all Civil service should benefit such as fire service, police,NHS and such like . you should only have one way of getting out of this and that would be staying on in full time education this would cut unemployment and crime by a minimum of 1/3 i think

I think 12 months compulsary national service from leaving school would be a good idea, to give todays generation a purpose in life and also keep them from ganging up on street corners at night.

Bad boys!!what a joke.í did real national service 20 years ago and if you spoke to a officer the way they speak to them on that show you would have been beaten up by the officers or ended up in detention barracks where you get rocks and pebbles if you catch my drift.

I have to say that it would straighten them out a bit. When you listen to a lot of the young kids talking about drinking and thieving and what they were up for in court i really do think that that would be a great idea. A lot of my family were in the forces and involved in the army cadets and TA and it was good for them.
