Any version of Linux CAN run any Microsoft software program!!!

Check out these 1,600 MICROSOFT GAMES, made to run in XP!!! http://transgaming.org/gamesdb

And, if you want to run Microsoft Office, http://www.codeweavers.com has CrossoverOffice!!!

AND, you can use WINE or VMWARE to run a SHELL, in MAC, Linux, BSD, all the UNICS, UNIX, and clones, for ANYTHING you want that is XP!!!

DOS gaming??? DOSEMU is included in all Linux Distros, just like WINE!

DUH!!! I really HATE FUD and the STUPIDS AND IDIOTS who spread it!!!

EVEN hotmail.com, Microsoft.com, and MSN.com switched to Linux for all their computers!!! Each runs 15,000 Linux computers that are maintenance free, virus proof, and safe from crackers!

The all report that they are "Serve 2003" but, are actually running that in an EMULATOR!!!

I believe that Microsoft Corporation, Google, and Yahoo, are rich, powerful, and SMART!

They all use Linux and BSD on all their computers, FREE, so why am I running Microsoft windows, with all the DRM, 150,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions, w0rms, the 'Exploit of the Weak', and 5 extra 'anti-whatever' programs? MS is SLOWER!!!

Microsoft.com, Hotmail.com, MSN.com, each run Linux computers, for speed (up to 50X faster, PCGaming Mag, Fall 2004), and for virus free, hackerproof operations. yahoo.com runs on FreeBSD. All are UNICS, UNIX, clones!

Google.com runs on 100,000 Linux clustered computers! Burger King, and the Fortune 1,000 corporations all run Linux! So does our governments! NASA, NSA, NOAA, the Weather Channel! Hollywood! (all movies since "Titanic - 1997" , all animations, all rendering of all stunts, are made in Linux clusters and graphics workstations!!!)

Think about it. What is MAC OS X? It is DarwinBSD, and is FREE if you run any of the OpenDarwinBSDs, or 32 different Linux and BSDs that work great on a MacIntosh!

I run 'curbside donation computers' and set up disabled folks, small schools, with them. Just like Microsoft does now, everyone enjoys a 92% reduction in maintenance, repairs of the files systems, the hardware! I can run here, without any Hard Drive!!!
Save to USB stick, carry my files in MY pocket!!!

http://pclinuxos.com has 5,000 FREE programs, games, apps.
Boots in CD, loads and runs in RAM disc, no hard drive necessary!

http://ipcop.org keeps out the bad guys, running a firewall and Dan's Guardian web page content filter! Blocks ALL exploits from within, or without! And, it can run Spam-assassin to send all spam straight to the garbage, instead of to your computer inbox! Protects up to 36 clients on any network! Requires a small and old system box, two ethernet port cards.

There are over 800 FREE OSes for YOU!

If you mean XP & Linux running at the same time they can't unless you use vertualisation software like vmware. Linux & XP will coexist on the same computer, if you dual boot, which is having both OSes on different partitions and choosing which one to boot into when you start the machine.
If you do this all your information on the XP partition will be available for you to use, files & folders not programmes. Windows won't be able to do the same with your linux info although I believe there is a windows programme that can be installed to allow this.

As for which Linux distro, I always suggest Suse 10 which is very easy to install & run

though ubuntu or kubuntu are supposed to be good

You can download Linux and burn a bootable CD and boot to XP or Linux or use a spare drive. Join a Linux forum to learn more. Take a look at the linux.org forum and look at ubuntu - that looks user friendly from the screenshots.

All versions of linux have the same level of compatibility with Windows XP - they run Samba and Sharity for networking, and can use things like ftp and telnet too (which all computers have anyway).
