If your TV truly has a coaxial digital audio output, you need a coaxial digital audio cable and the same type of input on your receiver.

Many HDTVs have the coaxial digital ouputs but, few owners realize that they will only get output from this jack when they utilize the TV's built in tuner to receive analog or High Definition video.

If you are using a cable or satellite box, you need to get your audio from there - not the TV.

Are you sure it is a coaxial digital audio output jack?
Can't imagine a TV with that and not having RCA jacks also.
Could it be just a coaxial cable, if it is hook this up to either a VHS player or a DVD recorder. Just use the coaxial output of the TV to the coaxial input of either device, from there your can use the RCA jacks to your surround sound system.

If your surround sound system does not have either a coax or optical input, it cannot decode Dolby Digital. If it only has L/R phono jacks (Red/White), it will only decode Dolby Pro-Logic (analog surround). Your TV shoud have L/R outputs for external amplifiers--that's what you should use if digital signals are not accepted by your surround system.
