I'm not talking about shipping in a refrigerated truck or container. Just frozen solid or frozen into a block of ice and then shipped overnight/express on a standard shipping truck. Can it be done and the seafood stay fresh? and do they even allow it? For sake of argument let's just say it could be shipped anywhere in the continental U.S. (this will settle a small argument I had with the bf yesterday) :)

Yes, it's possible.

At my job, the company's owner sends out seafood quite often. If you do use FedEx (we use UPS for his stuff), make sure it's Priority Overnight (it'll get there faster), and make sure it's in a tightly sealed cooler. It has to be tightly sealed, otherwise, when the condensation leaks, the courier will hold on to it, and that won't be good for the fish.

My recommendation would be to use frozen gel packs, put them in a cooler, tape it up real good, put it in a garbage bag, put that in a tightly taped box, and send it either Priority Overnight (FedEx) or Next Day Air (UPS).

It'll get there safe and sound.

Shipping can be done with frozen seafood if it is packed in insulated boxes with dry ice and shippied overnight via Federal Express.
Shipping frozen food is done everyday.......

Absolutely! I know FedEx does it, all our customers who come to Alaska to go salmon and halibut fishing use it. They stay for a week and gather up hundreds of pounds of fish and we have what they call 'fish boxes' which are heavy cardboard and are waxed. They pack them either with dry ice or these frozen gel packs and the fish inside is usually vacum sealed. It is common practice to FedEx them home rather than deal with 15 boxes at the airport plus your luggage.

FedEx, yes. It must be packed with special care. Priority Mail? No.

Yes, it can be shipped, but what I have seen is that they will use something like dry ice to keep it cold as well. It is done all the time. It is often done from places like Alaska and Hawaii to the contintental US as well.
