Why is everyone coming to the UK? We've got the most expensive fuel, properties, cars etc. in Europe, why is it that it doesn't put anyone off?

In case of Eastern Europeans it has nothing to do with freedom or benefits (or it's not the typical reason). My country is free enough, and we have more free benefits anyway. In fact, British people come here for the cheaper health services.

We either go there because students want to learn the language (my major was English at college and 7 of my mates went abroad, including other English speaking countries, and 3 of them stayed)

or

because the salaries are much better, even if life costs a lot more. For example, the average salary in the UK is 8 times bigger than in my country (Hungary)... and Hungary hasn't got the lowest wages in the area, believe me.

As mentioned above, this is possible because the UK has no restrictions towards the newly joined EU countries. However, in contrast to what was expected in 2004, not as many Eastern Europeans go there as many are allowed to go.
Furthermore, many people don't settle down there; many only want to gather money to return home with a fund to establish an own enterprise or to buy a house.

Human Rights legislation, and the expansion of the EU means we have no option but to accept these flotsam onto our shores. They, like many "asylum seekers" choose the UK rather than somewhere nearer as the UK has become a PC haven. We have the one of the least inefficient systems to deal with this. Labour shut down many coastguards, Customs and Excise, departments, etc about the time many of these East Europaen countries entered the EU. Now Labour have found £280m to create "new posts with new powers", but to me it just seems like they are giving the jobs back to the Customs Offocers, etc. But claiming, all the while, that this is a New Labout idea.
As Johnny said" Ever get the feeling you're being cheated?"

the reason you can hear them everywhere is because they are everywhere, busy taking up our job,s because they will work on the cheap, no questions asked. This government has far more important things to bother about like people bringing in food and drink, cigarettes etc. from other EU countries where they can be bought at a fair price and not at rip off Britain prices.
We should not accept the skills shortage excuse, this came about because of the lack of investment in a generation of youngsters that were wasted by Thatcher and her gang of hoodlums, who can only find a use for working class youngsters when there,s a war to be fought.
Blair is no better, the first thing he did on gaining power was to go straight to Thatcher, probably discuss how she would like him to do things. There is no such thing as parties with their own agenda anymore it,s a case of them and us, unless they require working class youngsters as gun fodder to protect THEIR GREAT BRITAIN!.
Don,t kid yourself they,re only doing jobs the natives don,t want Moospook I suggest you take a look at some of the big construction sites that are on going just now it might open your eyes a little.

Because Britain is the only EU member that allowed the New Accession States full employment rights. You'll be hearing a lot more after January 2007.

You mean you don't know?! They've been gradually coming over here for years. Hundreds of thousands have come over claiming they are seeking asylum and get free housing and benefits and taking us for a ride (I'm not talking about the genuine people who deserve help). Therefore they don't need to worry about the cost of living in the UK. Also there are many hardworking people who have come over here since the EU laws changed recently. Where I live the people are mostly eastern european/portuguese, south african, and have come here to fill jobs the lazy arses on benefits can't be bothered to do. (I live in the leafy suburbs of Surrey). Of course many come over here to take advantage of our generosity but I don't know the stats. I have nothing against legal immigration but it does have to be controlled because they are destroying our beautiful countryside to make way for more housing and we are too small to cope. We need to flush out the illegals and quickly before it's too late and stop any more coming in.

Not everyone is coming to UK!
Can I ask you why british people move to Spain,Greece,Australia (not very easy)? Why they don't stay here? So foreigners cannot move here, but british people can move abroad. Aren't you selfish?
P.S And the reason why some Britons don't move from UK or travel is because they cannot afford it!Reason: all f****s on benefit!!!
