My son was born at 9 lb 3 oz and everytime a new nurse came on shift I had to hear about what a big baby I had - as if I didn't already know that he was a big boy !!!! I found it offensive the way everyone kept bringing it up because they made me feel like we were some kind of freak show. The only concern anyone had was to check his sugar levels to make sure that wasn't the reason for his size. His sugar was fine and they determined he was very healthy. Good luck to you!

My fourth baby was 9 pounds 5 ounces, she was very healthy, and now she is very, very petite. Funny how the biggest one turned out to be the most petite. People think she's about 5 and she's almost 8. And anything under 7 pounds is not bad, my twins were term and only 5 pounds 15oz and 5 pounds 11oz and they were perfectly healthy, I would say a baby under 5 pounds at birth may be a little small, but not unhealthy, depends on the mom and what she did during pregnancy.

Well the weight is good. What a big baby! Healthy??? Thats up to you and your Dr. My friend had an 11 lb baby that had to stay in the NICU for over two weeks. Another had a 5 lb baby that came home from the hospital right away.

Wow! That's a big baby! He must be a cutie ;-)

And yes, He's healthy. The average newborn weight is 6-10 lbs. But it gets very hard when the child reaches 10 lbs, and a c-section may have to be performed.

Yes perfect. The normal weight range for a child carried full term is 5lb 8oz - 10lbs and even higher. I had a 8lb 13 oz girl, 8lb girl and a 10lb baby boy. Your son is a good weight. I bet he is a chubby little man. Congratulations.
