good question. sometimes even i wonder why did god create us. may be he did not have any other work to do. to while away his time ? just like how i am answering your question. isn't it ? this question does it apply only to the human beings or all the creatures on the earth ? does it apply only to u & me or others also ? because it looks as though only u & i have this doubt. that means all others must be knowing why god has created them. o.k. i am closing my yahoo answers to find out the answer for your question.

The purpose in life is to prepare ourselves as Christians to become the bride of Jesus who is the lamb of God.
Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
Revelation 21:9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife
The only way to do this is to be born again and accept Jesus as your savior.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Because it is the will of God. lIfe is all about what God's will for us is,and not what we want for ourselves.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
God wants a perfect bride that has proven themsleves worthy of being Jesus bride. That is why we had all those trials and rules to obey, and have been given the free will and the ability to choose to accept Jesus as our savior, and love Him freely and joyously. Or you can choose not to, and be weeded out of those that do want the privilage of becoming Jesus bride and have eternal life with HIm. The choice is yours

Our purpose is to take these small bits of God that we each are and develop them as independent incarnate beings who are connected to, but distinct from, each other. We develop through the exercise of free will and by reacting to the free will of those who touch our lives.
Our physical bodies separate us into independent beings, but every one of us - and everything - is a portion of the energy of creation, which most people refer to as 'God'. We would not be here if not for God, and God would not exist if not for us; we are connected to this constantly expanding eternal source.
The physicality we undertake in the material plane allows us to develop independence while testing our ability to cope with each other and grow spiritually stronger.
As incarnates, we begin as dark entities who are unaware of the connection we have to 'God' and to others, but gradually, through many lifetimes, we illuminate the darkness within us with the light of wisdom, as we learn perfection.
Although the church corrupted or mistranslated most of his teachings, Jesus taught reincarnation and karma. Rebirth in the literal sense is the basis of Judaism as well as Christianity.
We were never actually created. We've always existed; we are starstuff.

This question is answered in Revelation 4:11, "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." All of God's creating has been done out of love. God loves to create. As my father once told me:"Any fool can destroy, but it takes a genius to create." This creative genius of God resides in all of us. Everybody, and I mean everybody, takes joy out of creating. It is an inherited characteristic from our creation by God. God created the earth and everything in it because he loves to create. One of the highest compliments that you can pay God is to take the things of this earth and use them for creative purposes. God loves to see his children create. He loves to see his children follow in his footsteps. Jesus loves you.

Many theologians believe that God created man to make up for the fallen angels who were lost in Satan's rebellion.
If so, we didn't do much better than they did!
