ok i dont understand, april 2nd 2005 i was on a convoy when my vehicle was hit by an ied. i was injured, had internal bleeding and a severe headache for 3 weeks. purple heart regulations state that if injured by enemy fire that entitles you to be awarded the purple heart. i was denied the purple heart. but yet this past may there was a guy that was in his rack, the building was hit with a mortar and a brick fell on him. he was awarded the purple heart. am i wrong for being pissed? what should i do? my command says that they cant do anything with it. should i write my congressman AGAIN? or am i just wasting my time?

Unfortunately, I know someone with a similar problem. His command said that he was outside of a combat zone, which doesnt make any sense either, you get shot at your in a combat zone, either way you're probably wasting time wrting to your congressman as they're all pen pushers, but you do deserve it though. My recommendation would be to see if anyone else in the convoy was denied the award, if so, get a petition and send it up the COC, and see where it goes. Thanks for serving our country!

Thanks for serving our country!!! i dont want to be mean..but did you join the military to get a Purple Heart? You should be proud of your service already. And while your situation seems unfortunate, it probably shouldn't matter. Perhaps you could ask you commanding officer the reason you didn't receive one. I think you're a hero for serving this country already. Its seems like maybe you're still upset about your injury. Just keep your head held high and move on. If you continue to serve you'll get your chance to shine as a soldier! Good Luck !

As a vet, I'd tell you that you should know by now that the awards system is screwed up...alot of REMFs getting pinned while the rest of us do the ol' dog and pony show... It's not worth losing any sleep over... You're probably maxed out on awards points anyways...Medals and ribbons don't validate your honorable service, your buddies do.

Write your congressman, my ex husband received two purple hearts in Vietnam; One from being shot and the other from being drunk and driving over a land mine. So in my eyes you should get your purple heart.Good luck!

Call, write anybody you think that will help you that is bull $hit that he got one and you didn't. I know a soldier that got one for getting a splinter in his finger that was bull also but yopu know as I do that sometimes there is nothing you can do on the spot. It is better to get facts and fight the battle later.

I'd check with John Kerry he seemed to have an angle at getting purple hearts.:) Sounds like you deserve one to me, but I have no power to give it. In the military there are always superiors above yours, talk to them first.

Thanks for your service! I am a veteran, was wounded twice in Vietnam. Damn unlucky wasn't it! I have two purple hearts, that and a buck will buy me a cup of coffee. Listen vet, things are really screwed up. That damn IED shook you up! Get over it!

Listen I love you as a fellow vet, but are you a wimp or what?
