There are are vast variety of problems that a heart can have. If you mean by "bad heart" that your arteries have blockages, you can make your heart healthier through diet, exercise, medication and positive attitude. If you have a problem with parts of your heart itself, such as a heart that is too large or a valve is damaged or other kinds of permanent damage, your heart probably will not get better than it is, and, certainly not without more advanced invasive treatments than just diet and exercise and medications.

I had a heart attack 2 years ago and was told that 10% of my heart had "died". I thought it was the end of everything but the doctors told me that if I lost weight and lived healthily I could live another 30 years ( I am 65). I now walk 7 miles each day and eat a mediterranean diet (I live in Spain) and I have never felt so good. I take medication each day which keeps my system under control and keeps my cholesterol down. I don't even consider having a "bad" heart. I live a normal life and prefer to think of it as just an unfortunate episode in my life that is now over.

Without details, it is impossible to tell you what might happen. We need information to make an informed guess. Diet is certainly important but other factors are critical...what is bad...a mitral valve, endocarditis, primary hypertension, aortic stenosis, etc, etc. Only your physician that has your medical records and exams can judge this. Opinions here (even such as mine and I am a physician) are valueless, and you are fishing for good hope and news from people not qualified to judge. Many people do well with an improved diet and exercise, some need corrective surgery, others need bypass surgery. Certainly weight control is important...but do you and your heart some good...go to your doctor, or get a second opinion.

If the heart has a defect, usually it can be corrected by surgery. If you had a heart attack, yes diet would play a big part in your recovery. The less your heart was damaged by the attack, of course, the better.

If your heart is in failure, even then exercise and diet can add many years to your life.
Your heart is what keeps you alive, so it's not bad ever.

What is wrong with your heart? Some things can be fixed/controlled through diet, drugs and/or surgery and some things can't. If you know you have some kind of heart problems check with your cardiologist for diet and exercise recommendations.

that really depends on the diagnosis but eating healthy, no smoking and a little bit of exercise could help a lot and make a 'bad' heart last longer. with medicine today a 'bad' heart does not have to remain a bad heart I think.
