The answer is simple. Because it's against international law. We went to war in the Gulf against Saddam Hussein initially to throw him out of Kuwait (whom he viewed as a renegade province of the old Persian Empire). International Law states that every nation has the right to act in order to defend itself and to repell aggressors. Nations DO NOT have the right to simply invade and wipe another nation off the face of the Earth and absorb it into their nation. The ways of Ghengis Khan and the Roman Emperors are long gone.
