I'm in the same boat as you. I'm flying from the UK to Mexico via the USA later in the week and am quite concerned that my laptop will be smashed (and I'll be needing that when I get there)! I've tried to come up with a way around it, but have so far come up with no success. I'm just hoping that they relax things enough so that at least I can take a book with me by that point. I wish you the best of luck!

Put it in the hold and increase your travel insurance to cover it. If it gets lost nicked or what ever claim on the insurance and but a new one at the other end.
Bombs work just as well in first and business as they do in economy.

Why would you have to put your phone in checked baggage? I'm not sure why you are worried about this. I've flown every day, 5 times a day, since Thursday, including today, and everyone had phones like always. I don't ever remember hearing that phones were prohibited.

Depends where you are going, but at the end of the day, what makes you so important that the rules have to be bent for you? Most airlines don't like mobiles being used, even if they are plane enabled, as they disturb other flyer's, I would be complaining if you were sat close to me and using one! Business can wait a couple of hours, no one is that important

It currently depends on the airport you are travelling through. Out of the London airports it's the plastic bag rule. However, coming into the UK, it's completely different. Some foreign airports are allowing hand baggage as normal. Check with airport website and also your airlines website.

Best if you go by boat or find other ways of doing business - maybe these restrictions will encourage more tele-conferencing and cut down on the massive amounts of pollution planes pump into the atmosphere every day.

at this time, you are out of luck here in the UK. In the US, however, I can see them losening the restrictions in a couple weeks. The whole purpose is because the plot to blow up the planes was going to be detinated by a device that looked like an iPod...
