I wonder if we can appreciate something as much if we do not have a sense of what it would be like to lose it. Each day that I live actually requires conscious thought and medication. I think that somehow I am blessed because the knowledge that each day could be my last helps me to appreciate and celebrate each day. Do you appreciate and celebrate each day you draw a breath?

Becoming a Buddhist help me appreciate each day more. However, you certainly don't need to do that to appreciate life.
Reading your "question" I assume you have some illness that helps you appreciate your life and the world around you.
If more people would just think about the complexity of life and what a gift it is, I'm pretty we wouldn't be bombing the hell out of each other.

Well, obviously I'd have to believe that someone was "giving" me each day to consider it a gift, by definition. So since I'm atheist i guess I have to say that I don't.
However, I do think your question is slightly contradictory. I accept it's possible to take every day as a gift. But if every day is a gift, then every day is special. And if every day is special then by definition none is. It's a logical contradiction...

Another day that we are blessed with is always a gift from God. It is another chance for the lost to get their selves right with God and accept Jesus as their savior. There will be a day when those gifts stop, and their last chance to turn to Jesus for salvation will no longer be offered. That will be a sad day for all the spritiually lost, who live in the darkness of sin and who follow satan.
I praise the Lord for every day He blesses me with. I praise Him for bringing His Christian children together any way He can.I am blessed by reading posts like yours. God bless you always
