I am an Australian Registered Migration Agent (www.themara.com.au - #0322987). I'm based in London but have also worked in Australia (I migrated to the UK 2 years ago)
Whether you use a migration agent will depend on your situation, e.g.
- what visa you are applying for (spouse visas are quite straightforward however skilled and business visas can be complicated)
- your individual circumstances (do you have health or character or other concerns that may complicate your application?)
- how much time you are willing to dedicate, personally, to your application (are you prepared to complete 30 page forms and constantly follow-up government organisations?)
These are the types of factors that you should consider when deciding whether to use an agent.
If you do decide to use an agent make sure the person representing you is registered with the Migration Agents Registration Authority.
Best of luck!

I am an Australian and my parter (who is english) are moving home so I am currently researching how to get him a visa. I sorted all my visas for this country out on my own but it was a real hassle. Also the immigration policies are stricter in Oz so I think it would be a good idea if you go through an agency.Check out http://www.visaconnection.co.uk/

Do not go thru an agency. they will charge like a wounded bull for forms you can get off the net for free. Look at this site first. www.immi. gov.au. this site is a govt. site and has all the right answeres to your questions. Aust. is hard to get into, but if you have a trade and it is in demand like the housebuilding trades you have a good start right away. good luck.
