to skypiercer, i am from Ky., a hillbilly . i say y'all quite offten . and to J T , what is proper english? did you come from England , or there abouts? is that not where english is spoken properly ? not many people in the U. I'm a New England Yankee and use the phrase "Y'all" because I picked up the slang living in Indiana for 4 years. Actually I think it's pretty cool.

Y'all is a great, all purpose, pronoun. It is unisexual and you can call a group of girls, guys, or mixed company 'yall' without any problems. It can be singular or plural: 'all y'all'.
