I had the same problem when i got home from the Navy. I couldn't control my swearing and this is what my dad told me to do since he was ex Army i listened. He said that in times of stress just stop what you are doing and focus. Form your response in your head and fix what words need to be fixed. Then state in a clear voice what you intend to say. It will take some time but after doing this for a few months your speech patterns will change and it will become very easy. Also to help you relieve stress from work besides going on your comp find another hobby that you enjoy. Take me i collect sports memorabilia which is something i enjoy plus it can yield later in life a return of profit. Also i feed the birds and squirrels in my neighborhood because it gives me my alone time and drains off my stress. You need to find a hobby that will relieve stress and give you alone time to clear your thoughts. I hope this helps you as it did me. Peace

There's no "silver bullet" for this. (I have the same problem.) Train yourself in times of calm; in other words, prepare yourself for the next frustrating situation. Think how getting angry and cursing will not help the situation. I've started doing this with significant success. When I'm faced with a frustrating situation or person, I actually LOWER my voice, and use more formal words and phrases, showing the other person or persons that I mean business. Physically, if you haven't already, join a gym. This is a great place to release a lot of energy and improve your health all at the same time!

This is a re-learning thing. You must persist and correct your habit on your own. There is no easy answer. I assume that you really mean swear words rather than slang...slang is acceptable but vulgarity is not. Also if this occurs frequently, look at anger management.

Make up a nonsense word that you can say in public in front of children when you are upset -- something as ridiculous as "rowrbazzle" or something equally silly --- you might even get the people around you to laugh when they hear you say it! You might have to "practice" it a bit, but once you get it it should help you. Hope your life starts improving immediately!

Practice not getting upset. I used to get road rage. Then I analyzed it and asked myself "Is this doing me any good?" Obviously not. Just tell yourself over and over: why should I get upset when it does no one any good... especially me. It's basically reprogramming your mind to relax. Somewhere along the way, you learned that it is normal to get upset at certain triggers. Now it's time to unlearn them. For more info on thought control, read this book... it saved my life from suicidal depression and taught me a whole new way to look at life: "The Feeling Good Handbook" by David Burns, MD.
