Depends on which test is used.

The blood test can be positive as early as approx 1 week after ovulation.

The urine test could turn positive as early as when you miss your period; 7-10 days latter is probably more accurate, so if you test too early, could still be negative.

from HHS dept:

There are two types of pregnancy tests. One tests the blood for the pregnancy hormone, hCG. The other checks the urine for this hormone.

Doctors use two types of blood tests to check for pregnancy. Blood tests can pick up hCG earlier in a pregnancy than urine tests can. Blood tests can tell if you are pregnant about 6 to 8 days after you ovulate (or release an egg from an ovary). A quantitative blood test (or the beta hCG test) measures the exact amount of hCG in your blood. So it can find even tiny amounts of hCG. This makes it very accurate. Qualitative hCG blood tests just check to see if the pregnancy hormone is present or not. So it gives a yes or no answer. The qualitative hCG blood test is about as accurate as a urine test.

from Medline Plus:

Urine pregnancy tests will only be positive when you have sufficient HCG in your blood. If you are very early in your pregnancy, and the HCG level is below 25-50 mIU/mL, the test will be negative.

Therefore, if you are late for your period, you should wait 7 to 10 days before trying the home pregnancy test. If the test is negative, wait a few more days. If you still don't menstruate, try the test again. If you still test negative and your periods do not return to normal, see your health care provider.

Quantitative serum pregnancy testing is usually performed at a hospital or doctor's office. This test measures the amount of HCG in your blood. It can measure amounts ranging from 5 mIU/mL to 2,000,000 mIU/mL or more.

In women who are not pregnant, both the urine and serum HCG tests will be negative. This means that the amount of HCG present in your system is less than 5 mIU/mL and, therefore, will not be detected by either exam.

Depends on when the test was done. They are pretty accurate. something like 99.9% accurate so 1 in 1000 would get pergnant with it stating a negative.
They are very faint if taken within 2 weeks of conceiving.
So yes there is a small chance, but a small chance is a chance lol! So they should see the doctor, they can do better tests.
The est time to do a test is on a missed period, not before. It will then be 2 weeks since you conceived and 4 weeks pregnant (going by 1st day of last period)
Hope that helps!

No I don't think so. Because I took TWO tests , one a little early (but box said I could) and one a few days after a light flow period (usually have heavy flow and lasts longer). Both were negative so I moved on and said "not pregnant!". No biggy.

Then, I kept having my breasts ache, milk in breasts (if I squeeze) blue vein on one breast, some silly food aversions that made me raise an eyebrow, stomach a little hard around belly button, gas, constipation, one numb leg...all this stuff and I started to think "hmm how odd this is!. Then I would get the feeling like milk was letting down a lot (i got this in my other pregnancy too, guess my breasts like to breast feed lol).

So I thought 'maybe it is all in my head and maybe for some reason my body wants to think its pregnant'. So I convinced myself of that for like 2 more weeks, til my next period was due.

Now its 3 days late....and its usually like clockwork. I am 41 however (but my mom got pregnant by mistake at 42 so its not that unusual) so I keep thinking "How could I get pregnant without even trying at this age when so many women have to struggle!".

So I still am unsure but its looking more and moire like I am prego and had TWO NEGATIVE TESTS (just took them too early i think and also not using first morning urine)

Hope it helps or at least lets you know to follow those negative ones up if you dont get a heavy period . (light period can be not a period but implantation bleeding)

There is always a possibility of being pregnant even if the test shows negative. If at the slightest sign that that test shows possitive (like the + sign can just barely be seen) there is that possiblilty. If you think you may be pregnant you should go to a doctor and have a blood test done. That should be you best choice. :)

Nope, its still not safe to say. My wife took 2 tests four days apart and they both came back negative. She went to the Dr. for her annual and he told her that until she had a period he wouldn't prescribe more birth control. Guess what.......test #3 was positive a week later. Now we share a beautiful baby girl. We weren't trying to get pregnant but it somehow happened and she always took her birth control at the same time every day. It was odviously meant to be or it wouldn't have happened. What I am trying to say is, if you are pregnant make the best of it and have fun with your new baby.....they are the best!!!!

Possible, but not always. Some test fail just like anything. Should always go see a doctor and have a blood test. They're more accurate
