Boy are there some off the wall answers here. Parvo is a virus. It only effect DOGS NOT cats. It is not an intestinal parasite. It is transfered by contact with other puppies/dogs that are carrying the virus. It mostly effects puppies, and older dogs that already have compromised immune systems. It is also carried by flies. All puppies should be vaccinated every 2-3 weeks from age 6 weeks (when not with vaccinated mom) until age 16 weeks. A puppy gets immunities from it's mom as long as it's nursing and the mom has been properly vaccinated. This virus causes serious bloody diarrhea. If caught VERY early some pups can be saved. It is more common though for pups to die. Hope this helps. Some of these answers astound me. People really shouldn't answer a question when they don't have a bloody clue what they are talking about. But alas this IS the internet where just about any moron can say what they please.

I'm sorry about your dog. Someone already gave you the link to a site.
I just LOVE how people respond to a question with "my god why didn't you get him/her their shots? if you can't afford to do shots then you shouldn't have a dog, you horrible horrible person."
These people obviously are made of money don't realize that not everyone can afford to have their animals get all of their shots. Surprisingly though, I've had about an average of 20 dogs, (17 once at one time), over 9 years and only 2 of those died from from shot preventable diseases. I've also had a cat who has not had her shots, I've had her for going on 10 years and she's never been really sick.
I'm not saying shots are under rated, I'm saying that they don't always have to have their shots. It's a good idea, yes, when you have the money. If you don't, just be careful about where you put them and what you let them do.

Pargo is a fish from ocean, but in Puerto Rico if you're a male and you're "pargo" or "parga" if you're female, means that you're going out with many people, sexually or dating saying, at the same time.

I'm so sorry you lost your dog. I think what your dog had was parvo. It is often fatal if a dog gets it. That is why it is so important to make sure you dog has his shots.
You can type in parvo in the search line and it will take you to a question and answer on parvo.

It's parvo and it's an intesitinal parasite I think. You should have gotten the puppy his shots he probably wouldn't have died from it. I lost a dog to parvo once it is so sad the are in a lot of pain I would think pooping blood. That's why I have gotten every dog since their shots. They are 3- 4 sets of them so if you get one set that's not good eneough they need a series of them.
