The more you use a computer, the more you will learn, where ever you are.
When i was at school, a friend of mine taught himself to write computer software outside of school, created a music programme and sold it for several thousand pounds back in the 80's (it wasnt that good - but it was a start). Not bad for a 15 year old as he was then.

There is a definite structure and learning curve in school, at home things may be hap-hazzard and unorganised, but if you really want to learn something in depth then outside of school is probably the best option, the teachers will only know so much and will stick to the syllabus.

School is good to learn the basic.
The IT industry set of skills is so vast. Most people end up specialising in certain fields.
The best way to master skills you have learnt is through experience.
I think that goes for any industry.

Your computer. I'm not being funny, but the best way to learn is by doing. By some manuals, check out the help menus on the programs you're learning, they contain more info than you think.
