Jesus means that a man must believe Christ and be Saved. That Salvation is being born of the Holy Spirit. When Saved we become new in the way we relate to God and man. The Holy Spirit comes into the person and dwells in him for the remainder of his earthly life. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

John 3

1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. 9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? 10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? 11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. 12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? 13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. 22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. 23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. 24 For John was not yet cast into prison. 25 Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying. 26 And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him. 27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. 28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. 29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease. 31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. 32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony. 33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. 34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. 35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. 36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Jesus is talking about rebirth in the sense that we must be born out of our sins. The Word also states that a man is once a child but twice a man. That is the same. He has thrown off the old man and took on the new man which is a born again Christian. That is the only way to enter the gates of heaven. To be born again. Jesus said no man would enter but through him. I sure hope this helps you. Please get into the NEW TESTAMENT and read about the things Jesus said. There are two different theories to this question.

A lot of baptists believe that you have to have a significant change in your life. That you were leading a life of sin, but you become born again by turning away from sin and asking Jesus into your heart. You become a new person in action and in your heart.

Most people believe that it just means that you have to be baptized, and to believe that Jesus has saved you from your sins and from Hell because he was blameless and he died for you. This would eventually lead to the life-change that the baptists call being born again as well. You would live the way that Jesus would live.

It as many stuff written in pink can advise many stuff reckoning on your attitude and the place you're at spiritually. in case you don't be conscious of how, the certainty, then come and follow me, i would be your way bathe. Take it from the attitude of the tale being in step with astrology...the daddy is residing the place? In heaven! And who has the main suitable view of the heavens, however the solar, the Son from the German notice sonne, the solar. From a Yoga attitude it somewhat is asserted that God truthfully the, previous area/time is residing in heaven, the only Begotten Son the element of God that got here out from the certain to be introduction...you may no longer get to the daddy different than for the duration of the Son - how are you able to declare you adore God the daddy once you do no longer in hassle-free terms like the Son manifested everywhere around you because of the fact the life types and the plant life and animals and your brothers and sisters, you're saying you adore God yet you do no longer even see God the two modern everywhere. And there are in all probability many different techniques it brings as much as human beings. no one verse has an absolute meaning.

mandbturner3699,
Nicodemus was having trouble with this one. I remember doing the same not long ago.

I lot of times when you want to understand a verse you want to keep reading, and sometimes it becomes clear that way.

As you remember, Nicodemus was flummoxed by the idea that he had to be born again.
Jesus had to back up, so that Nicodemus could better understand:
John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

So Jesus analogized with an illustration:
John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Nicodemus . . . . well, maybe it was late for him:
John 3:9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

Jesus makes a wake up call to Nicodemus:
John 3:10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

I think by this time Nicodemus must have been standing on his heels. Jesus then pulled out something Nicodemus might grasp, a well known part of the scriptures, and quickly aligning it with himself:
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

The connection then being made, Jesus makes it clear by preaching himself, which he does throughout the Gospels:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

And that last part, if you didn't understand any of those other parts, is the key to understanding what Jesus meant by being born again.

We are born to die. The very nature of us condemns us. That is the first birth. To be born again is to be born by the Spirit of God, which is provided to us for faith, that is; our trust, in the word of God to tell us that the sacrifice of Jesus was enough for God to see as sufficient to make peace with Him. Those who claim to God that they believe in the sacrifice and ressurection of Jesus: have filled all the necessary requirements that make up faith. Faith is what He wants, and that step in the proclaiming to God is seen by Him as sufficient to make the connection to Him.

I really hope that I made that clear enough!

He meant that you had to receive the indwelling Holy Spirit who would give you eternal life. When a person believes the gospel message and puts their trust in (turns their life over to) Jesus then God gives them the Holy Spirit and they become His "born again" children.

John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

1 Peter 1:23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 for "All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord remains forever." And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

He was referring to the ancient Buddhist belief in Rebirth, the cycle of Samsara based on the Law of Karma, both concepts the Christ taught and there is ample evidence found in the Gospels today without having to refer to the Gnostic's.

But these great teachings were later removed and bleached out by the churches founding fathers forcing themselves as the go-between of man and God...supplanting the Revelation of Christ within us for the corruption of the church, it's priests and rituals, etc.

You must kill off the old, sinful, you and start living a new life obeying Gods Commandments. It is like being born anew. Hence, "You must be Born Again".

Being born again refers to lifting our consciousness to the spiritual plane from the material plane.

Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. The Book of Revelation describes the state of mind when one has lifted his consciousness and tries to comprehend the Divine.

End of days, Apocalypse, Armageddon all refer to changes in our consciousness or a state of mind where we have overcome the temptations of the material world. Ultimately we will be aware of God within us and within all creation.
