There are laws that state that dogs that are known to be aggressive have to wear particular collars so other dog owners know to keep clear of them in public. That makes sense. Why shouldn't kids that are known to be hitters and biters have to be easy to recognise too?

Where did I say that children are dogs? Why is everyone telling me that children are not dogs? I'm saying that some kids are aggressive towards other kids, and some dogs are aggressive towards other dogs, and I think parents have the right to know which kids are liable to hurt their own children.

Hey, I totally understand where you are coming from, as a former preschool teacher and now home day care provider as well as a parent of a child that has been bitten and hit at preschool and day care. I see your point, but I don't necessarily agree with it. The teacher is the one that needs to know if the child is aggressive and needs to be able to deal with it appropriately. Most teachers know their students very well and truly try to help situations like this. Putting a bracelet or a marker on the child is labeling at it's very worst. Most kids outgrow biting and hitting but labeling them as such would be very hard for them to overcome emotionally.

And I don't think you were comparing kids to dogs, you were just using it as an example. I did something similar the other day, a question about police officers, and everyone took it completely the wrong way and missed the point of my question. And no matter how you try to explain yourself afterwards, everyone just thinks you are a crazy ranting biotch! LOL! Take care.

Labels do not solve the problem. How do you decide which child deserves the tag? One incidence of aggression? two? What is the severity of the behaviour that warrants a label?

A reputable day care provider will have training and policieis regrading aggressive behaviour in children. The workers do not need a label or tag to discriminate "aggressive"kids from "good"kids, rather they are trained to identify problem situations and react before the aggression occurs. If a child is repeatedly misbehaving in one form or another, the child care provider will speak with the parents and together, facilitate a solution in addition to gaining an understanding as to what is causing the behaviour.

A label will never stop a behaviour. Observing, and stepping in before the behaviour is acted out, and understanding of the children and their reactions will. If a day care provider is allowing aggressive behaviour, they are failing the child misbehaving and all of the other children. There's more wrong than an aggressive child or children, there is something wrong with the care provided up to and beyond the point that the aggressive behaviour happens.

I think they should. I would not want my son, who is on the sweet side, to be stuck playing with a child who is going to be aggressive towards him. I know my son was bit a few times in daycare by a child who was a known bitter and it was so upsetting. I think if your child shows signs of being mean, or a "bully" they should either be put in a different classroom or be kicked out of the daycare. That's why children have such problems, because there is always a few bad seeds who mess things up for the sweet children. I think anyone who is against this idea either does not have children or has a child that is the bully.

Good Idea _ come on folks she does not compare dogs to kids or kids to dogs. She is just using it as example. If i know a kid has an aggressive behaviour I will keep my children away from them by all means.

That sounds like a sure fire way to keep a kid aggressive to me. Just think: You're wearing your red bracelet and in the store with your mom. Another mom comes down the aisle and sees you (and your red bracelet) gives you a dirty look and tells her kid "Stay away from her!" How would that make you feel? Probably hostile, hurt and more aggressive.

Ya know, way back when, teachers used to put 'DUNCE' caps on kids who weren't too smart. Have you ever seen those?

What?????
Would you think it was a good idea if it was your child?
Do you think it would be helpful to make it known to everyone that a child has a problem. What about his self esteem?
Well, lets put it this way if you have any problems why don't we pick a color that you are required to wear. I am not sure how anyone could that was a good idea, I'm really not.
We could have them for kids that aren't potty trained soon enough too, aren't they a bad influence?
what about if they aren't smart enough??
Oh yeah, lets not forget the one that have crazy parents!!!

If you are affraid that other children will hurt your children keep them at home. My children are aggressive and above 95% height and weight so they are also larger than other children. No I don't think that they need to be branded as "bad" that will only hurt their self esteem and self image. I think that parents need to be more aware of their children good and bad alike.
If your child was the aggressor would you want him ostricised...No. You know that others would not want to play with the bully...

I kind of agree with you. BUT you can't compare dogs to kids. Number one unless you have the same routine as the dog does you most likely will not see the same dog more than once in a while. BUT kids in a day care. Your seeing the same kids day in and day out all day long. So if the teacher can't remember which kid/s bite well shame on the teacher.

labeling will cause discrimination. this will also affect the self-esteem of the kids who are labeled.
and children are not supposed to taught to be discriminative towards others.

Dogs are different. cos aggressive dogs are so harmful that they could bite ppl to death.

I feel it wud be a little inhumane to treat Kids(Infants, pre schoolers) like some kinda mad dogs. Its not right that they should have to wear tags.Stringent disciplinary action is usually all that is required.
Tagging on the other hand could have far reaching effects(trauma). We have enough serial killers as it is.
