Hi my niece only 15 yrs has a mental health problem she hears negative voices ,the doctors have her on anti phycosis pills ,an M.R.I revealed the part of the brain associated with epilepsy has unusual brain waves. She is not epileptic . she also suffers from an itch ,she feels like things are crawling on her,the doctors could find no physical cause for this . She feels like shes being tortured. does anyone know anything about this itchy feeling associated with mental illness. I want to try and help her its a sin she should be out enjoying herself at that age.

No, the itch and crawly is real. It can be due to a systemic yeast syndrome. It may be partially the cause of her psychosis as well. It takes some specialized tests - and some aware doctors - to find it.

Go to www.hufa.org and click on the yeast link. Also check out the library link for books on the subject. I have read "The Yeast Syndrome" and am reading "Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook". Start her immediately on yogurt - plain, low fat, no fruit. If she will eat 3 a day (in addition to regular food), for one week, she should start having a response. It may make her feel worse (gas, constipation, ucky) but that means it is killing off the yeast.

I am betting she has other physical problems too. The symptoms link at www.hufa.org may be helpful, as yeast syndromes like persons who have "sweet" bodies - blood sugar imbalances - or otherwise imbalanced immune systems.

I would like to hear from you or her if this is helpful at all.

Have you had her tested for mercury poisoning? Also have her thyroid tested. Also she may have decreased melatonin levels. Her meds need to be monitored she may be becoming toxic. Or a possible allergy to meds. I'd have her seen by a neurologists for the abnormal brain waves there's something there causing these, also an endocrinologists to check her metabolic levels and pituitary gland need to be checked there are so many avenues to go with these symptoms don't give up but do see other Dr's besides psych Dr's it could be something not mentally wrong it could be some thing mimicking mental illness don't give up be supportive to her and let her know she's not alone she needs to not lose hope. I hope this has been a little helpful take care and good luck!!!!

I don't know about the itch but I believe her illnes is schizophrenia which has varying degrees of hallucination. Also sounds like drug use when you're on LSD or something.
