It is in fact six steps, and it is called the Six Degrees of Separation. The commonly used example of this principle is the actor Kevin Bacon.
Simply put, Person A, anywhere in the world, knows at least one person who knows at least one person who knows at least one person who knows at least one person who knows of Kevin Bacon.
Example: Mikhail lives in Russia. His close aunt knows of a woman who works as a janitor for the American embassy. She knows of the secretary for the American ambassador, whose office she always cleans. This secretary knows of Kevin Bacon. Connection within six points: Mikhail, aunt, janitor, secretary, Kevin Bacon. Supposedly, this sort of system will work for anybody in the world.
I must question its accuracy, considering the strong possiblity of an isolated tribal group.
