Yes, to determind when a person is dead is very problematic since long time ago.

Today, the time of death is determined by the time when our brain stop functioning, when our brain stops displaying electrical activity.

In terms of religion, we die when we are fallen into sin. And that is the reason why Jesus die on the cross, to wash away the sin of man and to conquer death.

We each (in our terms of being separate) have a deeper self, known as our true self, or inner self, who knows the time and manner of our "death". This inner self can be seen as an Oversoul, with many lives in the physical...hence the concept of reincarnation.

On that level, we all know when we die. But death is no more than a change in focus.

The Holy Bible speaks of 2 deaths...the first death is bodily. If you die the second death...It is also spiritually and then you cease to exist in any way..form or matter. The good news of the Gospel is that you don't have to face the second death. Speak to a Christian Pastor.

When you had an accident and the pain is too much to bear. So you just stop bearing the pain. I think death will come.

Or when your organs are too tired of supporting you. They will abandon you and take a rest. Once they take a rest, we will take a rest too, forever.
