maybe it is a good idea to start using our minds and heart.

Cars will probably have to drive either on electricity or on some synthetic fuel (hydrogen or methanol) which would also require electricity to make. So we will need more and/or bigger power plants. Unless we stop driving cars but that's probably not realistic. Even if many people switch to tele-working, there will still be substantial need for transportation. Also, due to global warming, there will be more need for air condition and refrigeration.
Solar energy improves very fast but I don't think it has potential to provide a substantial part of our energy, due to the huge areas needed.
Coal will be abundant for hundreds of years, but whether it is an environmentally sound solution will depend on the future of the "greenhouse gas" debate and possibly advances in CO2 sequestering technology.
Ultimately, fusion power will solve all our problems but I'm afraid it will advance too slowly to take over before oil ends.
Fission power, especially fast-breeding reactors, is my best hope.
If no cheap energy source is developing, price rices will force us to use less energy, which should not be much of a problem. There's a huge scope for energy saving.

Hi friend,
This is as simple as it can be, and as tricky as it can get.
Well, the most probable alternate source of energy appears to be the nuclear energy. But yes, if used properly, Solar energy(indirectly a form of nuclear energy), can provide a long-term solution to our energy crisis-es. As soon as the Sun will remain in existence, we will we able to find energy anywhere and everywhere. Anyway, if we don't find any new planet, we are going to be out of existence once the Sun dies. So, anyways, there is no point in questioning about what next after the Sun dies. So, till now, the best possible solution appears to be the Solar energy - A long term, pollution-free solution to all our energy crises.

We have no source of energy that would produce the amount of power that we get from fossil fuels - these fuels lock up centuries worth of solar energy.
Hence we will not have enough power to support our large populations. So we will need a few really bloody wars to get the population down (the ones in the middle east are just practice).
Then we can use solar power.
In the interim we will probably resort to nuclear, but there is only about a 25 years supply of uranium. However, this will leave us with several millenia of highly toxic nuclear waste.

Biofuels - source from plants or dead animals or an end product of some fermentation processes..
Watch out cool fuel road trips in Discovery Travel and living channel.. I don know the timings
They have organised a show where people use fuels other than petroleum... Its cool to watch and U learn something as well...

Well "Its very unforunate that we are using the fossil fuels (petrloeum , diesel , etc...) Like we have it abundance...
it will get exhausted in abt 100 years.
The Next source of Energy can be :-
1) Solar Energy specially in tropical areas...
2) Wind Energy.
3) Water Energy.

coal and petroleum are the most important sources of energy right now for human beings. but being aware of the fact that these are exhaustible, scientists have looked about for other measures since ancient times.
they've come up with options like solar energy , which is the most important prospect as it is almost inexhaustible and is available in plenty.
wind and hydro power are equally useful .
another powerful resource is nuclear energy available from fusion as well as fission. it is the same procedure by which sun derives its enormous amount of energy.

When petroleum comes to an end after 50-100 years the world is preparing for next generation in fuel is water or technically known as free cell .

The Sun is a very huge source of energy. Solar energy have never been used efficiently and it is abundant every where.
So it will be good if we can have a technology to use solar energy in a very efficent way.

Scentists world over are experimenting on defferent sources like Solar Power, electricity etc. to take over. Honda has produced a Hydrogen based car that burns and emmits Water and Oxygen.
Neuclear will be an option too - it will be safe in times to come.
There are many options - so don't worry :)

The scientific fact is that every option is as yet a science fiction.
However possible sources of energy could be energy derived from the sun, such as wind, sun, waves, etc. and energy from fusion.
these sources of energy could be transformed to electricity, to hydrogen in fuel cells, etc.
