So which is more important? Not letting your child exist as an abomination or not being guilty of murder yourself?

I think it's a perfect question for the people who are 100% opposed to abortion and also 100% opposed to homosexuality (funny how intolerance for these two things go hand in hand with most church attending Christians).

So which is more important? Not letting your child exist as an abomination or not being guilty of murder yourself?

Yes that was implied. It's not uncommon for a parent or both parents of a homosexual to give their child the silent treatment for life or to disown them entirely, so I wanted to know if anyone would just abort their homosexual and try again for a child they could "put up with."

George, I'm not your friend. You just called me an idiot! It's hypothetical, but I'm sure within 10 or 20 years doctors will be able to tell before birth whether a fetus is homosexual, just as today they can tell what sex a fetus is, and whether it is afflicted with a myriad of birth defects or not.

I don't believe I am an idiot for asking a hypothetical question, which in a few years' time will no longer be isolated to the hypothetical realm.

HAS ANYONE NOTICED THE SEVERE LACK OF ANSWERS TO THIS QUESTION FROM THE USUALLY VERY VOCAL HARDCORE CHRISTIANS???

That's awesome! That's the funniest thing I've read today. So what kind of science did you use to discover this Jezebel spirit that causes homosexuality?

Again this is a hypothetical question, and all modern science and pschology seems to indicate that homosexuality is usually caused by nature (aka genes) rather than by nurture (aka environment, rejection, etc). The question assumes that science can accurately predict that a woman's pregnant child is in fact going to be born homosexual. If you are incapable of grasping the nature of a hypothetical question and answering it without resorting to ad hominem and other attacks against the person asking, maybe you should grow up a little.

Asalaam alaikum,
I didn't include Jews, Muslims, Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses, either. Too bad! Christians make up 80%+ of the religious people in the USA, where I live, so that's who I mentioned. If you convert all those Christians to Islam, I'll start mentioning Muslims instead of Christians for such questions! Good luck!

I'm not against either, but I think the Christian would say no, and then just try like hell to "cure" their child of homosexuality.

I am a Christian, but I believe everyone put on this earth has the right to life. Just because the child were homosexual does not mean they would not be a wonderful person. Everyone has something to give to society, whether they be "straight", or otherwise. I believe God wants us to see that we need to be kind to people and practice love. If God did not want the homosexuals, why does he let them be born in the first place? I almost talked my daughter into having an abortion 16 years ago. She was pregnant just out of high school. I thank God I did not succeed. I now have a gorgeous, intelligent, and kind granddaughter. I ask God to forgive me everyday for even thinking about taking a life.

Interesting.

When I saw your question it also made me think of the reverse as well.

If one who knew that a child was gay before they were born would they still be PRO abortion?

In other words, maybe it is a perfect question to lob back at those who are 100% pro abortion, i.e. under any circumstances, even partial birth abortions.

In other words, suppose, hypothetically speaking, a whole mass movement of people decide to pratice eugenics and say that all "gay fetuses" should be aborted. Will those that were 100% pro abortion support the "rights" of this movement?

Anyways, as is the case, I do not support any of the hypothetical views.

Also, I'm not a fundamentalist Christian (I'm Jewish) so I cannot answer for that point of view either.
What I will say is that from a Jewish religious point of view, homosexual behaviour is forbidden.
Only under extreme circumstances would abortion be allowed (and this isn't one of them). Thus, the Jewish position in such a situation would be clear. One would not be allowed to abort. In doing so, one is not comitting any sort of sin.

Pardon me, but I reallly don't understand the meaningfulness of an "if" question. That is why I wonder how useful our answers are going to be, regardless of how true we feel about them

Anyway, here goes..

Just like you did not choose to be a male or a female before you were born, homosexuals did not choose to be so before birth. But that's nature. There is still the nurture component in homosexuality. Meanwhile, a life is a life - homosexuals or not. So give the child the love, and nurturance to grow as socially acceptably as possible. That would be my answer.

What a great question!I really think fundamentalist Christian types would have a hard time answering that honestly because they still think that homosexuality is a learned trait. But since they can't seem to prove that I would love to see the day, which I know is coming, when scientist will be able to narrow the "gay" gene and even detect it before birth. The only thing I worry about on that is that these fundies would try to then find away to correct that gene.Which would then blow out the possibility of them defending "God's" creations if they are altering God's creations before birth..Silly fundamentalists!

That is the stupidest goddamned question I have ever seen on this site! However I do see how this question could be relevant to bigots like you. Homosexuals are not an abomination and if any mother were considering abortion just because she thought her child may become a homosexual, than I believe that woman should not be having a child anyway because she is way to closed minded.

2006-08-12 21:57:53 · answer #6 · answered by curtis8472 2 · 1 0

None of the above. I'm not a Christian, I'm a Muslim. In Islam abortion is allowed in extreme cases, such as: Danger on the mother's health (In which we prefer the mother's life), or a disorder in the child, but must be aborted before the 40th day of pregnancy (It has been proved by the modern science that a fetus becomes an embryo (With organs and all) at that time). So I don't think I'll abort the child, I'll just raise him from his childhood on the Islamic morals and he won't be gay. If he became gay (Which is unlikely) I'll help him to get back to the natural order.

This question is silly.

Each person decides for himself what worship he will practice because Jehovah has blessed men and angels with the gift of free will. A parent with a child may try to teach his child true worship, but the child himself becomes fully responsible for his own actions at some point. Even the perfect Almighty Father had children who sinned.

Also, the so-called "double-effect", which some so-called Christians espouse, is completely un-Scriptural. Every Christian is obliged to follow God's Word the Bible despite any seeming consequences.

Well I am glad that you are sure. I am sure that within ten or twenty years doctors will be able to tell whether my child will like pink lolipops or rasberry ice cream cones.

The fact that you are sure of it, still leaves to be addressed the fact that what you are saying is totally hypothetical.

I am sure that a big meteorite is about to hit Seattle, Washington, and I bet I can catch everybody living there with some really tricky questions about when the meteorite hits.

I am sure that Julius Ceasar will be revived from the dead by doctors on the Fifteenth of March of the year 2037 at 3:14 in the afternoon.

So my question to you is this, how will you react when Julius Ceasar brings his invading army and military genius into your town.

By the way, bro, I think the my friend deal might have been a sarcastically patronizing rhetorical device.

I am not sure, I may have to check with George D on that one.

This is a typical tactic. In this "question" what the asker is actually doing is trying to show up people he/she disagrees with as hypocrites.

The method is simple, take two unrelated propositions that you feel are wrong. Ask those that you think believe in both of them what they would do if one came up in a situation that would seem to negate the other. The answer you are hoping for will show them up to be in a bind in which they are damned both ways.

The problem with this asker is that in his/her comments he/she actually admits to this being a tactic of the question.when parenthetically giving away "...(funny how intolerance for these two things go hand in hand with most church attending Christians)..." therefore revealing a presupposition as to what the oucome will be. This is really the sign of arrogance, the tactic is supposed to be used in feigned innocence but this person is so enamoured of having thought of the question that they can't help but boast of the "trap" they have laid.

First of all, let me say that I am deeply insulted that you did not include my religion, Islam, in your sights. We have basically the same feelings on both subject as your intended church going Christians.

Secondly let me say that your question is also insulting in that you think that people take these positions solely out of stupidity or at the least intolerance. Nothing could be further from the truth and until you understand that, you will never be able to engage in fruitful conversation.

The fact of the matter is that both of these positions are based in highly evolved belief systems which have already dealt with this position in more sensical ways that answering your inane question. The answer is, and always has been, that life takes precedence in all cases. So killing a child is wrong.

Furthermore, one of the premises of the question is baseless, in Islam we know that we cannot know the path of another person's life which God has set out for them. Therefore it would not be possible, even with the most advanced scientific instrumentation, to say for certain what a person's orientation will be.

Peace and Blessings,

Salim

First, we Jehovah's Witnesses are Christian.
Second, no one is born "gay"
Yes I am opposed to homosexuality and abortion.
The Bible tells us that life is sacred and that Jehovah disapproves of among other things, Men who lie with Men
If deciding to pursue a same sex relationship was a genetic fact, not a decision, the Bible would not have needed to mention the wrongness of homosexuality.
