If memory serves me correctly, there are no vowels in the original Hebrew Language of the Old Testament. So 'God' would then be spelled, "G-d." Or it could be because some peoples' religious belief forbid them from pronouncing the ineffable name of God, so to not take any chances change, 'God' to 'G-d.'
"God" is not actually a name as much as it is really a synonym for The Deity, rather than a proper name. When Moses asked God what His name was that he may tell the people who sent him unto them, God replied from the Burning Bush: "I Am Who Am. Tell them I Am has sent you unto them."
YAHWEH, or Y-HW-H, is the Hebrew for "I Am." Again, that is not a proper name. If God has a proper name, it has not been revealed to us. I believe that God did not reveal his name to us, because all the false, pagan 'gods' did have names, and by revealing His name men would foolishly associate the One True God with the false 'gods.'
Certain mythology holds that only the camel, during moments of extreme duress, can utter the ineffable name of God. Certain literature (The Alphabet of Ben Sirah) holds that Lilith, Adam's 'first wife,' uttered the ineffable name of God, sprouted wings and flew off to a distant mountain peak to couple with demons.
Oh, as it has already been explained, BBF is an acronym for Best-Friends-Forever.

To avoid using His name in vain.
There are various names of G-d that, according to Jewish law, one may not erase, deface, or use in a profane manner. These technically apply only to the names when written in Hebrew, but it is seen as a sign of respect to avoid writing them even in other languages.
After all, doesn't the Creator of the universe deserve a dash of respect :-)
BTW, BFF is Best Friends Forever

There are many names for G-d. It depends on what essence, or attribute, of G-d you are referring to as to what name you use.
G-d is used to show who one is talking about, without actually using the holy name. It shows great respect.
Someone else will have to explain BFF.

BFF=best friends forever. Most sites will censor the word "God", just in case his name is being used in vain. =)
