People believe that the devil creates the idols to lead people away from god. Thus all idols are the devil incarnate. (Some Calvinists go as far to believe anything they don't like eg modern music and dance are the devil trying to lead all of the path of god)

Idol(idle) worship is to worship something material, something that is not God, the form of God in a temple is a bona-fide form of worship that predates Christianity by some 3,000 years historically and is still a predominant part of the Vedic tradition.
The term is an arca vigraha deity form, here is some detailed knowledge:-
It is considered that since God is the controller of both material and spiritual energies, He can turn something material into spiritual energy or vice versa. Thus, the Deity, which may appear to be made of common material elements, becomes spiritual and allows us to see spiritual form with our material senses. Out of the causeless mercy of the Supreme, He agrees to reside within the form of the Deity to accept the worship of His devotees. Of course, we should not think He is forced to remain there. If He is neglected or if harm is allowed to come to the Deity, He may leave the form of the Deity at any time.
The devil on the other hand, is a conceptual being absorbed into Christianity by the early church leaders, from the Greek God Pan and the Pagan God of the animals, who had the imagery of a goats head, the term Satan means adversary, so the pagans(peasents) were opposed to Christianity, hence the concept of the adversary Satan with cloven hooves and horns.
Along with this imagery came the scare tactics of eternal hellfire, brimstone & eternal suffering, which was o.k. for the primitive peasants but hardly workable today. The other point is again obvious, God is absolute, no-one can seriously compete with God.

Devil is known to one and all as evil. Not the same for idols. Different people have different beliefs and some worship idols as their gods.

Worshipping idols goes against God and so does worshipping satan. However Idol worship is worshipping statues and figures made of stone or carved out of wood. Worshipping satan is worshipping a falen angel turned evil. An idol can not do as much damage to you as satan can but I do not agree with either or reccomend them.
