Some beliefs are dangerous, others are meant only to hold back progress. For example, some people believe that a blood transfusion is somehow an offense against God and will not take it or allow it even to save a life. Others insist that medical science as a whole is sinful and that prayer alone should be used for someone ill. Never mind the high death rate from such practices.

When the lightning rod was invented, churches resisted it because God had a powerful sky aspect and lightning was supposedly from him. Only after churches kept getting burned down did they get around to accepting them. When drugs were developed to help ease the pain of pregnancies, religious people were against them because pain in childbirth was supposedly a curse that God had inflicted so it would be a sin to try to aliviate it.

Now we have the same sort of nonsense going on over biology, astronomy, geology, and science in general. There are people who will fight to the death over insisting that the Earth is only 6000 years old despite mountains of evidence demonstrating otherwise. These are the same sort of people who think that the Moon landings were hoaxes in the Nevada desert.

Face it: If a belief system cannot stand up to critical analysis, then it doesn't deserve to be believed.

I have had peoples religious beliefs forced on me so much in my lifetime, I am sick of it. I'm glad I finally have a forum where I can voice my opinions and have intellectual discussions with others about why they disagree. Although a lot of people on this site are idiots and will just try to force their opinion on me anyway.

People need to do this in order to believe that their way is right. It's like saying that if my way is right, then your way must be wrong. this is all or nothing thinking. When I do this, people say I am having a bipolar episode, but when religious people say this, they say they have true faith. I don't think that there is any "One True Way."

It arises out of a subconscious desire that all humans have, for their fellow humans to share in their worldview.

Disapproval is just a manifestation of their subconscious frustration that their beliefs are not shared by all other humans.

depends o nthe beleif. if it is seen that the religion or beleif is inherently bad for people or society then people NEED to disprove it to the followers. to try to get them to see logic and reasoning.

this works for both islam and christianity

just because religion or beleifs give people warm fuzzy feelings inside doesent mean theyre right,

Not disprove, just discuss.

If you cant change your mind, how do you know you still have one?

And if your beliefs can't withstand the random bleatings of the internet crowd, they must be VERY shaky beliefs indeed....
