I finished college a year ago and for the last 3 years I've been a legislative intern. Now, I got a promotion and will be moving to the state capital for a much better job. I am excited. But I'm also scared.

I've never lived away from home before and this will be my first full time jobs (I've had a number of part time jobs during college) I'm scared I won't be able to handle living on my own or won't be able to handle working 40 hours a week. Sometimes I worry that I don't know what I'm doing or I'm making a mistake. What do you do when you're scared like this -- what helps you?

You're on your way to success. Never look back on what you'd done, look forward for every new day with a fresh and excited mood.

Be fortunate that you've got the promotion, this is known as a positive scare'ness..
Look at those who want to get promoted but in the end to no avail?.. Yes?..

You'll have to try before you think that you can't handle them. Everyone will undergo such things and its part and parcel of life. Take it easy and you'll be able to make it.

Tell yourself that you're able to do it, don't remain negative, cause it won't help you. If you can do it, just do it. But if that gives u lotsa stress, give it up and go for stuffs you prefer to do. As life is short, you need to live to the fullest.

You'll have my support, dude!!
GO for it !! =D

From my own experience and others that I've heard of, I conclude that we always get scared of something we never experience.

So, When I am in this kind of situation, I usually try not to think about it. because the more we think about it, the more we get scared. Just go and get through it day by day until we are familiar with the situation. So often that what we got really scared of turns out not a bit scary at all. That's my own experience.

From what I read of your question, you are lucky. Not many people as lucky as you are, having worked for so many years without even being promoted.

I have a proverb which maybe can ease you up a bit:
Life is like a the water in the river. Just flow with the current and get into the sea. No matter what happened, the water will always flow with the current.

I hope this helps to ease up your troubled mind.

Wow TKO, I rather have the comparable authentic worry! it is so undesirable that if i glance over right into a 10 gallon aquarium full of water I start up hyperventilating yet I unquestionably love the sight of the sea and how it is going on continuously. weird and wonderful. i'm additionally afraid of doing something considered as "interesting" like skydiving. i've got been dragged on curler coasters in the previous despite the fact that it extremely is on no account been an relaxing or relaxing journey. I continuously get off desirous to kiss the floor and thank God that I survived LOL.

Get a pet and talk to it even when you are scared. And remember all the things you have accomplished like going thru school and getting to your part time jobs on time and know that even if you fall on your butt and really screw up that you can get right back up and try again.
This is just another milestone of growing up and it is normal to be scared. It is not normal to be so petrified that you can't do anything.
If you need to then be an adult and get some help. Fear can be dealt with. Paranoia needs help.

Hi Pat, the fact that you're scared shows that you are smart. It's perfectly normal to be scared. I am starting college in September, and I am terrified! and Excited at the same time. I am 42 by the way. Anyway, just focus more on the stuff that causes the excitement when concerns overwhelm you. I find doing that gives me energy to deal ......with the joy stealing STUFF. Also, I pray, the Lord gives me peace beyond understanding.

Living alone is kind of fun rather than being with one's family. But don't get me wrong here. I'm not saying that you forget about your family or anything. You have to realize that you're an adult now, that you're responsible for yourself and that it's now your time to earn money for a living. Scared? That happens mostly when you aren't used to it... yet. Hang in there, you'll go through it. You might even appreciate being alone since you can have more privacy. If you're scared, why don't you call home from time to time, meet new friends and hang out with them. You'll get used to it, I guess. :)

Look fear straight in the eye and say you're more scared of me then I am of you. Then if that doesnt work I just dust myself off and try again. There is no try only do or do not but you can get alot if not an unlimited do or do not attempts imo.

When ever I feel afraid
I hold my head erect
and whistle a happy tune...

No, actually , I just freeze. But seeing that you've finished college and that you were a successful intern, it appears to me that you are quite capable of forging ahead. Good luck. Enjoy life in the crazy capital.

When im scared, i grab my silenced m4 a1 assault rifle. Y ?because if im scared, its probably for something i need to be scared about.

Put things into perception, what doesn't work out probably shouldn't have, no big deal. But more importantly don't think so much about it. Just go out and do it, b/c it needs to be done.

one thing i can tell you is that the world in it's own is a scary place, but then , we have to develop, take risks, make mistakes, and either learn from them or run from them.
Take a positive attittude, pray a lot and believe all will go well.
All the best !
