I drove a 2006 Cadillac DTS the other day and it was the best I've riden in, personally.
I'm sure the more expensive cars than this are good, too.

I believe the suspension set-up of the 1981-1987 Jaguar XJ6 makes it among the smoothest and quietest-riding cars on modern roads. Jaguar used the same suspension configuration as the E-type--MacPherson Strut in front, double MacPherson in the rear--but the shocks are sprung much looser. Cabin noise is practically zero, there's no rumble from the tires, and you can go over speed bumps at 30 mph and practically not feel them. But you still get enough road input and performance from the car to keep you from falling completely asleep.

Driving a series 3 XJ6 was absolutely the most comfortable road experience I've ever had outside of a sports car, and the thing still cornered like a Jaguar. Gorgeous cars. My little sister refused to ride in the Ford we have on long trips if the Jag was available--she said it was the best to sleep in and the Ford was "uncomfortable".

The smoothest riding cars were made back in the day. Cars like the 70's Mercury Grand Marque or Ford Galaxie were so smooth, you felt like you were riding on a cloud. Nothing made from the 90's on can even compare to those cars comfortable ride.

If you want quiet, you should try a hybrid or electric car. The Prius is really the only good choice on the market right now. The engine won't start up until you're going like 30mph and without the engine running you can't hear anything from the car.

The Lexux GS300 with silica compound tires and suspension on "Normal" setting has to be a candidate.

to go to the extreme, the maybach 57 probably does, or the RR phantom.

On a more normal level, its probably the GS series lexus (lexi?) or the LX series SUV by them.

I like my Cadillac rather well. Smooth, powerful (although the gasoline is a bittch these days) and very quiet.
