To start off with, anyone who says "LimeWire is full of viruses" or "use LimeWire if you want to fill your computer with viruses" (or anything similar) is r*tarded. Yeah sure it is possible to download viruses and trojans from LimeWire if you are stupid - anyone who knows anything about computers will never have problems with LimeWire. I mean if you think you can get a whole mp3 song in a 10KB file then you deserve all the viruses you get. My advice with LimeWire is to simply be realistic when it comes to file sizes - average mp3 songs take up something between 3 to 6 megabytes (give or take depending on the song, for example a 12 minute song will probably take up about 10 megs and a 10 second clip maybe about a meg or less). A movie is probably in the 100+MB file size and full iso images of cds are usually about the same. Some setup files for applications will be anything from a couple of megs to a hundred or so. And NEVER download something at 851KB, 0.0KB, 75.something KB or 127.something KB - these are known viruses (if there are a bunch of files with different names at the same (unrealistic) size then it is likely a virus.)
As for the LimeWire website, there is absolutely NO WAY you can get malware from it. I really recommend LimeWire for erm... legal (innocent face!) file sharing as I have had no problems with it and I NEVER EVER will have (and I say that with the greatest confidence for a reason).

Limewire is full of spam, adware, spyware, and virii. Most people have learned how to download smartly, but many people are impulsive and do not have the proper virus protection. There are so many people trying to propagate something malicious over Limewire it's not surprising their rated as one of the top 5 most unsafe sites(or services).

I think this has been fully answered now, but if you think about it carefully, you will see why all of these sites can be risky.
You are openly inviting someone you have never met from anywhere into the would to put something on your computer. Without proper protection, that has to be asking for trouble somewhere down the line.

And they say Answers has no point! This is useful and scary stuff - I've been using Limewire for months and recommending it to my friends, I never really thought about viral problems. Silly of me, it's obvious really. I am a fan of peer-to-peer, but it clearly has it's dark side!

Spam allover it.. Viruses everywere. Some viruses you dont even know your infected with. They are just connected to other files you download. Its a 3rd party site and you cant really have any safe secure downloads from them.
