I know nothing about the wedding tradition in USA. Please help.

That sounds like a lovely gift.

Most American couples getting married are registered in a few stores. Traditionally this was so that the wedding guests could give them a set of china and the shop could tell people what pieces were still missing from what would be a complete set. Now people register with lots of stores for nearly everything they want.

Me, I think gifts you choose yourself are much more special than checking items off a list. I'm sure they'd appreciate anything you chose.

A gift, is a gift. If they don't have a drinking problem

that would be beautiful. it is about what you feel is nice. no traditional gift unless they have specified it in thee registry. then you just go by that. the registry would be in the invitation to let you know what store to go to
