I tried giving a video recorder to an electrical repair shop but they didn't want it, I'd say take it along to your nearest recycling yard, but keep the plug if it's one you can re-use.

you can drop it off at a vacuum repair shop. they will use the working parts. some will pay you money for it and some won't. at least it can be put to use, rather than tossed in the trash.
