I just moved in my new apt and there is a metal rack in the microwave, i thought that would damage the microwave...
but its supposed to be in there...

I just moved in my new apt and there is a metal rack in the microwave, i thought that would damage the microwave...
but its supposed to be in there... and yes its metal a magnet sticks to it... and if i put a hotdog on it it sparks and leaves grill marks... its super cool i think..

It's metal... it's weird, but some microwaves work with just that one bit. Others can't have metal and use it for their grill mode. Whatever you do, don't add metal to it thinking it's ok. It's not. Ask your apt building manager for a manual. You can find more info about it there. :)

It's metal, in fact the sides are metal. They engineer the cooking cavity so it reflects the energy to get a more even cooking area. The racks and the metal tray reflect the energy. If the metal gets damaged then don't use them. If there is a sharp edge you will see the sparks fly.

Its a Convection Microwave. Its a dual purpose one. You can use it as a Convection Oven and also as a microwave. Remove the metal rack when you are using microwave and use it with convection cooking only.

probably cause its not a microwave. It sounds like its a covection oven. Same size as a mircrowave, just works like a oven. If metal was in it, and its a microwave, it would have sparked like hell.

Its not metal, it just looks like metal. Microwave makers must think that makes is quirky and cute.

Its not real metal it probably crome or something to make it look good. If it was metal you microwave would blow up.

I wondered about that, too. The guy at the appliance place said it was for popcorn.

I just took it out.
