I know Scientologists often recommend vitamins and exercise to treat anxiety and depression, but what about herbs like Kava, St. John's Wort and Valerian? They are certainly not psychiatric drugs, which I know the Church opposes, but I haven't been able to specifically find a Scientology position on herbal supplements.

No, I think you will find that we only have issues with drugs that further damage the mind - that are mind altering.

Scientology recommends thorough medical examinations for
anyone with acute symptoms like this, since undiscovered physical and nutritional deficiencies as well other physical problems, infections etc can often be found as a cause.
Once a competant medical doctor has fully investigated the symptoms using proper medical procedure, like blood tests, urine tests, etc then the correct treatment can be prescribed
or recommended. If a deficiency or imbalace has been found to exist then natural supplements would be taken to correct it.
We tend to use medical doctors who will do this, and not just
hand out a "drug" to suppress the most obvious symptom.
Undetected Vitamin and mineral deficiencies are very prevalent in todays society due to many causes, stress, diet, pollution,
and recreational drug use, alcohol abuse , to name a few.
Use of Psychiatric drugs also create these deficiencies.
Antidepressants are now proven to be addictive causing the same intense mental and physical withdrawal symtoms as hard core illegal drugs like heroin.

about things like this, since we do not treat physical or mental illness. It is not our province or purpose to do so.

We are against psychiatry because it is spiritually destructive, cures nothing and causes harm . Not to mention the billions of $'s it gets appropriated from Governments (tax payers) and Drug companies for inventing and labelling mental illnesses to "treat" which don't actually exist.

What does this statement tell you? Says a lot about this religion doesn't it? Guess scientology really screwed this guy up and his son.

Probably they would be against that, but not as much.
It would still be the same logic. Problem is in you, fix the problem, dont take something to dull the symptom. They dont consider altering with chemicals (even natural ones) just to mask a symptom as being a treatment.
This was not an "official answer" though.

Yes Just ask Tom Cruise & His assult against Booke Shields. He doesn't believe in medication for Depression. He is CLUELESS on this matter.

It may help mild depression / anxiety. For severe case of depression / anxiety see a psychiatrist. You may require prescription drugs and/or therapy.

It's hard to find their official position on anything, even their basic cosmology, because they are very secretive about their beliefs. But I would assume that they oppose herbal remedies as much as prescription drugs, because they believe that the only way to solve mental problems is to spend money on "auditing" to get rid of the alien spirits or whatnot inside of you.

Why are you worried about it?
If you are anxious or depressed and it's not a medical issue (talk with your doc) then...it could be a spiritual issue. Which means you need to pray about it.
God has given you a smart mind to use...so use it.
