Freight forwarders arrange the transportation of your cargo whether it is one box or a million boxes. Nowadays it will invariably be put into containers for the journey particularly if by sea. The freight forwarder will consolidate your booking with others to fill a container in order to get the best return. Sometimes a forwarder will be called an expiditer.
The Shipping Agent is the agent for the owners of the vessel carrying your container and is the central point in receiving all the bookings of containers from forwarders and other companies with whom they deal direct ie have regular contracts.
