I saw Wicked with Idina Menzel, Jennifer Laura Thompson, and Joey McIntyre, and I thought it was wonderful! It was funny, visually stunning, entrancing...really takes you to a different place for a couple of hours. I think people get caught up with the fact that it has this sort of glimmer to it, so people think that it's not thought-provoking. But when you really sit down and read the lyrics and the script, it really has heart...it speaks to me, at least.
I would definitely go and see it again if I could. If i were you, i would see it in the UK if not for the sole fact that Idina Menzel is in it - her performance was phenomenal!

It has phenominal spectacle. I never read the book, but I saw the play with its original cast on Broadway. The set, costumes, and songs are great. It's a lot of fun, and it's touching. I spent the entire time I saw it thoroughly entranced, and I loved it. It's especially fun for its nods at the original Oz, and the imaginitive twist on the story is really neat.
However, if you're looking for a really deep, thought-provoking experience, I'd say save your money. Wicked is more like theatre candy.

I love it. The music is wonderful, the choreography is great, and the message is excellent. It's humorous, touching, and clever. You can decide what you think it's trying to tell you, but I especially love the line in it, "No one mourns the wicked." If you stop and think about that a second, for those we assign as "wicked" and kill or allow to die indiscriminately, how often are we even right to make that judgement?
Go see it! It's great!

NEWS: Wicked on Broadway will celebrate its 3rd anniversary October 30th. Kate Reinders currently plays Glinda.
OPINION: Since it's been almost 3 years since it's debut, it is not new, fairly or otherwise. "New" only applies to products or productions less than 6 months from introduction.

I loved it. I am a big Broadway musical fan. I saw a touring company and it was great. Dont' let the London thing freak you out. Then the terrorists win.
