Shrimp tastes salty like the sea that it came from. If cooked properly (not overcooked) it should not be rubbery.

The best way to eat shrimp is to chop it in a fine dice and put it in between two wonton wrap[ers forming a ravioli shaped pocket then deep fried. Dip them in a chili sauce, marmalade jam or sweet and sour sauce. The crispiness of th eshell and the strong taste from the sauce will take your mind off the shrimp.
You may want to add chopped waterchestnuts to the shrimp to add crispiness.

Seafood, like most meats, tastes best fresh. So don't go to Red Lobster or Long John Silver. I would recommend that you go to a good seafood restaurant and try a sample platter. This will give you a good variety and will allow you to eat seafood in a "dressed" up manner.

If you aren't used to eating seafood, I would not recommend that you go to the supermarket and buy some shrimp or fish. You wouldn't know what to do with it and trying to eat it will cause you to have more bad experiences.

Fresh seafood, especially saltwater varieties, will have a refreshing, cool, salt water taste. It is so good. There is an after taste but usually very subtle. The fresher the seafood, the less "fishy" it will smell and taste.

For the first time, I would recommend scallops. This seafood comes from a shell, similar to the Shell Gas Station symbol. The meat is soft and white and offers a good after taste.

Enjoy.

I'd throw up if I ate school cafeteria fish, too.
Go to a really nice seafood restaurant and order a Caesar Salad with shrimp. The shrimp will be sweet, cold, silky. It will taste a little salty. My husband suggests Shrimp Fried Rice for your first time.
Remember, fish have scales and each kind has its own taste. Shellfish (shrimp, crabs, oysters, etc.) are from a different part of the animal kingdom. Take it slow. Enjoy.

I would say that the catholic school did not cook the fish right. Not all fish is considered seafood, so I would not worry about shrimp. You would really have to try it to really know what it tastes like. Shrimp and lobster are both great. If you try it you won't regret it.

Shrimp tastes like shrimp. It's wonderful. It however does NOT taste like fish. They are worlds apart. Besides that, the fish you were eating couldn't have been that great in a school.

My favorite is coconut shrimp for the fried variety, peel and eat shrimp, and cajun shrimp.

Try some snow crab legs too while you're at it!

Describing what a food tastes like is near impossible!
My best way to describe shrimp is that it tastes like it smells.

sea food is wonderful...but since you keep throwing it up I'd go have a skin test done to make sure you are not allergic....as a child my best friend use to throw up broccoli and her parents would not let her leave the table till she ate it....of course she would throw it up then she got sent to her room...when she became an adult she had stomach problem, the doctor sent her to an allergy doctor...guess what she was allergic to yes that is right broccoli....sea food is wonderful but not worth getting sick.....
