Are you only using the remote? I recommend putting the remote aside then putting in a cassette with a prerecorded movie or a tape that you know that has a TV show or something on it. Using the buttons on the front of the machine, press "play" manually. Make sure your TV is set to channel 3, with the switch on the back of the VCR corresponding.
If this doesn't work. Unplug the power from the wall socket for awhile, for more than a hour.
Plug it back in and try again, without the remote.
If it works manually, (without the remote), check the remote and change the batteries.
If it doesn't work check all your connections or try another TV or/and another cable.

can you state what you mean by not responding? do you mean the buttons are dead on machine.. or remote control not working.... ?
