More hype. You know people have been coming up with phoney *** statistics like that since david killed goliath..lol.."what's the average life expectancy of a giant in combat". Just more silly kids stuff. There were three jobs in nam that I recall people used to say had a certain life expectancy....door gunner on a chopper, radio operator, and point man. It's all B.S. Lot's of jobs have risks...but no one could possibly work out statistics of seconds or minutes on something like that. There were some who took one step off a chopper and they were dead...and others that did a year without a scratch...and that goes for 2nd LT's. Stories like that are the kind of thing some kid says when trying to impress his girlfriend. Keep it real.

"2nd Louis" ? You mean like my younger brother Louis? ;-)
Seriously though, while there are statistics all over the place, you have to look at where in RVN, when, what service, what MOS/AFSC, and a host of other things.
Like, the average life expectancy of an Army Infantry 2Lt near Khe Sahn in 1968 was probably pretty low.

It depends where the 2LT was stationed and his job, if it was in the sounthern portion of the Combat Zone, around 10-14 minutes. If he was a pilot, 12-17 days, and if he was stationed in the DMZ, around 2-5 months
