Becuase alchohol can lead to alchoholism and can induce a state in which one losses all inhibitions, including Allah. One who is intoxicated may do things he would not otherwise. It is best to avoid alchohol for these reasons. Also,alchohol is proven to cause liver and kidney problems, a condition that Allah does not wish upon the humans he has created.

The alcohol which is not allowed in Islam is the one which is prepared by "DIGGIN GRAPES UNDER THE SAND FOR FEW DAYS SO THAT THEY BECOME ROTTON AND LEAVE JUICE WHICH IS ALCOHOLIC IN NATURE" (dont try to prepare alcohol this way.. it can be poisonous.. it needs some further steps to purify it)
ok so this is the ALCOHOL which is not allowed in Islam... now adays alcohol is prepared by other means.. thats why some foolish arab make that excuses and drink it.. which will result in that they will end up in hell fire!
SO lets come to your question that why is it not allowed..
1) Main reason is that after drinking it people do not remain in their senses and start to fight.. they may seriously injure anyone.... (heard of deaths due to "drunk and drive" cases? heard of injuries between husband and wife late night "due to excessive drinking.. and much more)
2) It causes many kidney diseases
3) It may cause many other diseases if addicted to it.

Believers, wine, playing, the stone altars and arrows (that the pagans go at the same time with certain divine characters) are all abominable acts linked with satanic activities. stay away from them so that you've eternal happiness. go to bahrain on the weekend to see if they actually follow that rule. you see many saudis that are of islam boozing it up. It's pretty funny.
